17 in California, 1958. I failed the first time. The tester was a complete dork who kept yawning and repeating, "Oh, I am so tired. I didn't sleep well last night."

"Excuuuse me, sir? Was that my fault? Would I have passed if you had had a good sleep last night?" But this was the 50's...one did not *dare* to speak to anyone like that back then.
