Yesterday i made a comment about the office being to warm, and my boss responded with, 'just take your shirt off'. Also in the past when I gave him a check we received from a customer he told me I could have it if I spent it all on victorias secret and modeled if for him. What do I do? I really need this job with christmas in a month. I have been searching for other jobs since he first said the Victorias Secret comment 4 months, and I have found nothing. Also, collecting unemployment is not an option, I barely make enough as is, so unemployment checks definately won't pay the bills. HELP!!!

First tell him to stop. Tell him you are uncomfortable when he makes personal comments and it is making your workplace hostile to you.
Do not threaten a lawsuit but do use the phrase "hostile workplace" and he will know you know you have rights.
If there is a level above him tell him if he doesn't knock it off you will file a complaint with his boss.

Sexual harassment can also be bodily OR verbal. Him taking you to paintings might be both means but if he touched your leg and also you didn't adore it or invite his contact then THAT is surely sexual harassment. It does not simply imply he attempts to have intercourse with you or touched you inappropriately. Touching you in besides, notably in that discipline, is main you on and no boss must particularly be doing any of the matters he's doing. He's in his 30's and he is your BOSS. You're 18. He must understand greater. I'd do whatever earlier than it will get out of hand. This occurs plenty greater than you suppose and individuals simply forget about it, then it becomes whatever worse. You must now not be installed that role by any means at the same time running for anyone. It's unprofessional and really immature.

Document days, times and comments and go to the supervisor above him. An employer must respond to your complaint.

If this person is your only boss - contact your local Human Rights office and file a complaint - immediately. They will also advise you of your next steps in the workplace.

His harassment is illegal.

Take action immediately.

the first thing, when and if your boss says something off color is tell him immediately, That is really not funny, please do not say anything like that! if it persist, contact your regional manager or highest supervisor you can think of. record the call. some states this can be used, others it can not. still if you have problems contact an attorney. but, do not think this is an easy road either, should be a last resort.... otherwise, start your job search. it is always easier to find a job if you have one. now will you take your shirt off.

Officially, legally, you need to tell him the comments make you uncomfortable and you would like them to stop. By not speaking up he may be interpreting your actions as approval to talk like that. Be very clear to him in your message, no beating around the bush.

If the comments continue, or if further stuff comes up then you need to move on to your H.R. person and let them know what is going on. Tell them "On November 21, 2007 I spoke to my boss Bob and asked that he stop making comments to me as they make me uncomfortable. The comments are still continuing and I'm hoping you can help me out."

Don't quit your job as you can not collect unemployment benefits if you quit a job.

i know the answer should be talk to HR, but in the real world that could backfire. i would try and never be alone with this guy and keep conversation to a bare minimum. unfortunately until you can find something else you might have to put up w/his crap. when you do have something else lined up dont say anything. first file a complaint w/hr and see where that goes until you head to your new job. depending on what business youre in the good ol'boy network still exist and you have to be careful. also someone suggested to record him, be careful b/c the is illegal in many states. you need the person's permission b4 u can record their voice.

Your "case" for sexual harrassment isn't strong with two really dumb comments from him in four months. How did you react? Say something like "not funny", or sarcastically "VERY funny". If he makes another stupid comment like that, be sure to let him know you don't think it's funny, and don't appreciate being talked to like that.

If it keeps up, talk to someone in HR if your company is big enough to have one, or if not and your boss has a boss, talk to that person.

get a little tape recorder and tape his comments. Then report him to his boss, contact the EEOC, or seek out a lawyer for sexual harassment. I had a boss to do me that way once and I said if he ever did that again I was reporting him and it stopped. Good luck!

Don't tell him anything and go above his head. I had a boss like that too and I went above his and his managers head. this was for a hotel business. So my front desk sup was the guy. I didn't go to the hotel manager, I went to the hotel managers boss.

My sup was warned. And when i reported it again, he was fired. Sexual Harrassment is non tolerable for any company and they will get rid of the person doing it before the person who complained.

Unless he is the owner, all companies should have some sort of harrasment policy in place. Generally, you can go to human resources and file a grievance. You cannot lose your job for reporting it - it's against the law to fire someone for reporting harrasment.
