although i have kids kirst , i think the person who is the most appreciative has to be my mum, she is so easy to buy for and is always grateful for anything she recieves , when i can i send flowers to her and a card and one of those little verses you buy in the cards shops , she has a purse full of them ,this year they are coming to stay with me , i haven't worked out what i will be buying for her yet ,but what ever it is she will love it xx

I literally relived this exact event just a day ago. My boyfriend hyped up my gift so much. Last year I spend over a hundred dollars on his gift and he spend basically nothing, so I thought this year the tables would turn. Keep in mind we've been dating for about a year and a half now. I gave him a record that he really wanted and I cautiously opened his gift, which was very small and flat. I was already afraid of what he had hyped up. I opened it up. It was a $20 gift card to Panda Express. When he saw the look on my face he was soooo sorry. He kept apologizing over and over and telling me to forget about it and that he'd get me something else. In his mind, there was honestly no chance of me not liking it. But really?? From my boyfriend?? Does he even know me? And $20?? He always says price doesn't matter because he loves me... but I just wish he was willing to spend a lot on me for such an important day. I KNOW he makes a lot of money at his job. Ugh. This is so upsetting.

I don't know about a gift given, but I will give it sometime down the road in my life.
When I was in my pre teens I received a card. It was from my Mom. It had that we could spend one day month for the whole year doing something I wanted. horse back riding. shopping down town and what not...it was my choice every month...sometimes she would tell me about diff. places she knew about and we would go there.
My Mom and I have always been close and this just added to it. I still have the card and the fond memories. I have to say that was the best gift I have ever received...I too will pass on this gift to a family member.

My family are usually very appreciative of the things I buy for them for Christmas....having said that, I usually ask them for lists....or at least a few ideas....and then I just pick something from the list! I don't think you can really go too far wrong that way. I agree with you....it does feel great when you get it right!
On the other hand....I can never think of ideas for things I would like to receive....I think I am usually better at giving than receiving these days....although I love having things to unwrap on Christmas morning.

Our Cub Scout Pack went Christmas caroling two years ago to a couple local nursing homes and we gave little boxes wrapped up with a saying something like, "This is a very special gift, one that you can never open, it's filled with love inside, etc..." I don't recall the whole saying. We gave those to random old people that we thought were sweet along the way. Well... last year when we returned with the Cub Scouts again, a sweet old lady said, "Hold on... I have something for you." She wheeled into her room, and came back out with that little box, and said, "Here, this is for you - you gave it to me last year, and I hope you will bring it back again to me next year."
I have that little box all ready to go for when we return again on December 17th. I hope I am able to give her the best gift she gave to me... the true gift of Christmas. If she is no longer there, and up in heaven watching - I know she will know how much that gift meant to me... just as much as it meant to her.

My coworkers and I "adopt" a child via a radio station every year. The DJ gives us the ages, the sex of the children, their first names and their Christmas list. We go shopping and buy everything on the list, wrap the presents and drop them off at a local store. Even though we aren't there to see the children open their gifts, it's wonderful to know that they got something and people in this world do care.

when I was 6 or 7 the diamond fell out of my mom's engagement ring...got lost, she was crushed, totally crushed, she wept for an entire day...b/c of what it meant to her...I went to an inner city school, and they would have some special market thing around Christmas time for kids to bring some money and get some little gifts and stuff for their family. Well I found this cheap ring with fake diamonds and rubies in it for like 2 dollars maybe and I HAD to get it for my mom...she loved it and kept it close until she died even though my dad replaced the real engagement ring. She said it was more valuable than any diamond because of the thought of it and how proud I was back then to be able to replace something so important for her. Thank you for asking this question...its a really special memory that I like to remember often....

I gave up Christmas Day one year to cook and entertain for people in my community who have no family. What a wonderful experience! We raised funds all year and gave each person (57 in total) a nice present and transported them to/from the hall.

Last year I gave my partner an early Xmas present on 30 November.
He weighed 7lbs 2oz and is called Arthur.
He's about to turn 1 year old and I have to say he's the best present the whole family received last year! Straight from Heaven!!!
