It depends!

Does your period make you feel weak, crampy, cranky, nauseated, bloated, and generally yucky? If so, donating blood during this time is not a good idea. Some girls who have difficult periods and who donate just before or during their periods may be more prone to nausea/vomiting and fainting during the donation. This can be due to, among other factors, those nasty prostaglandins that cause PMS symptoms.

If your periods don't cause you problems, go ahead and donate!

While what you are loosing during your period is your endometrial lining - it VERY MUCH contains blood. The blood you donate is in the same stream as all your other blood. If you typically lose a lot of blood during your period then it would probably be a better idea to ask your doctor if he sees a problem with it. The AMOUNT of blood loss during mensus is MINIMAL compare to the pint you are having withdrawn during donation. If you drink plenty of fluids - then the donation probably won't be as nauseating you; but I honestly think it would be up to an individual if they can handle losing that much blood in one short amount of time.

On a side note - amenia (low iron) is more likely to show up if you donate on your period because of the blood loss with your period. If a test they run prior to your donation shows up that you are low on iron they won't take your blood anyway!

Yes, the blood taken from you when you give blood and the blood you lose when you are on your period aren't really related at all.

Sure.

What you're losing during menstruation isn't really blood, but old unused uterine lining (endometrium) that would have otherwise nurtured an egg had it been fertilized.

Blood donation will not be in any way effected by your period or vice versa.

Personally, I don't. I have mild anemia and donating while on my period is a double-whammy that drains the iron from my system and makes me quite sick.
Even women who don't have anemia or any of the symptoms lose a lot of iron during their cycle....
Also, donating could make your period symptoms (bloating, cramping, aches, moodiness, etc.) more intense.
