Reading for an assignment I came across the real story of a teen age girl who committed suicide due to a "my space hoax". I find this web page offensive, particularly because it is making fun of someone who is not here to defend herself, Please help.

I think your concern is legitimate. Unfortunately, I can sense most of the people who answered your question have misinterpreted the "freedom of speech". It makes me think we have way too many idiots in this country and I apologize for that. It seems like none of the "smart ones" who answered this question in the name of "freedom of speech' knows the word slander. Our freedom of speech is not meant to protect criminals.

Webpages make money based on advertising, just don't visit the site. The people who enforce the law don't give a crap about the reason you want freedom of speech infringed upon, but once you let them infringe upon it they will do so for the things that threaten their power, not the things that offend you.

There are many ways to report US web pages that you find offensive.
There are non profit organizations that specialize in different kinds of protections that are needed.
There are law enforcement and internet organizations like the Federal Trade Commission.
Really, if you want to venture out into some world, you ought to learn something about civic responsibilities of people entering that world.
One of those responsibilities is to report abuse, crime, etc. that we witness, and know to whom to make such reports.

You can contact the web site's administrator. If they agree with you, they can remove the page from their site. But there is no government office or agency that can do anything about this. Read the 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

seems like a superb sustained effort at satire about public figures to me, and that is always protected speech.
I give them credit for using the word "trepanation". Only sad he didn't work in "defenestration" too.

BTW, that site is a wiki - if you don't like an article, create a login account and edit yourself. It is running the exact some software as wikipedia does. I use it on some of my sites too :)
thanks for sharing.

I am sorry you are offended. Please don't read the page again. The author of the page is protected by the first amendment. I find your attempt to subvert the first amendment as offensive.
Since freedom of speech is not clear enough for you, maybe this will be:
THERE IS NO ONE TO REPORT OFFENSIVE WEB PAGES TO BECAUSE IT IS NOT AGAINST THE LAW TO OPERATE AN OFFENSIVE WEBSITE.

In this "myspace" case, the girl was a minor. The news is simply reporting the news. Her name and photo can only be released through the consent of her parents, which they gave.
If you don't like what you are reading, go to a different website. It's your "choice" that you read the story - no one is "making" you do it!
