Originally, the ideas of the Halloween sequals were supposed to involve different horror stories centered around Halloween. However, Michael Meyers turned out to be rather popular. They did the first one and then the second one to tie the story up. They made the third movie and it was not as popular. So, they bring Michael back into the scene. Besides, they had to compete with the Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elmstreet franchises. To do that, you need a mindless killer.
