Great question!
I guess you could ask this in reverse- why do communists attack the "nuclear family" as a strategy to undermine a capitalist society?
Attacking family, God, faith, patriotism, marriage and family is how communists have always strategized to overthrow a capitalist society. Is it a surprise that an element in our society is doing this very thing, today in the USA?
Socialists and communists have partially hi-jacked the democratic party and have brain-washed the naive liberals to do these very things; sadly the lemmings who rant and rail about these things do not realize they are being manipulated.
Most of the lemmings who jump on Michael Moore's bandwagon are in denial that he's taking them to socialism, another form of hell on earth.

Because capitalism only thrives when people take care of themselves. The nuclear family structure - two parents, kids, maybe grandparents - is ideally the best support system for a family to be self sufficient. Dad works, mom takes care of the family. These family units are bigger consumers than single people or people without kids. consumers are needed to perpetuate capitalism. These families also tend to produce good citizens. They are less likely to be criminals or burdens on society.
Think of the Cleavers. They are the poster family for American capitalism. But as we all know, not all families (even nuclearly structured ones) are as successful as the Cleavers....

Capitalism is a system of order and the nuclear family structure conforms to that need for order.

Date shows a distinct advantage in keeping the nuclear family model in tact for a more productive society. This is due to the fact that nuclear family units contribute more to the output of society and the stability propagates the offspring will do the same. The government knows this and that's why many marriage incentives are given through legislation.
Happy Thanksgiving!

wherever did you get that idea? capitalism is a form of economic freedom and diversity ruled by the wants, needs, and desires of those freely trading in the marketplace. it has no 'structure' to it at all. you are projecting your own need for family structure onto an ideology that does not demand or require such a thing, nuclear or otherwise.

Capitalism is entwined with democracy, and vice-versa.
Historically, socialist and communist countries aren't able to maintain democratic rule - they almost always end up with one ruling party (like Mexico or Soviet Russia) or one ruling dictator (like Nazi Germany, Venezuela, or Cuba).
In socialist or communist parties, the state assumes the role of the parent to a large degree - when economic freedom is lost, all other freedoms tend to disappear, also; the natural human impulse to raise children is subordinated to the state's need to enforce "equality."
Most people (even non-hetero's) like children, have a need to reproduce, and are very attached to their offspring - voila - a family. They'd like to have some say in how their children are educated, what laws their family needs to live under, how their tax dollars are spent - voila, democracy.
They'd like to see the results of their own labor and resources used to support their own family and to be able to provide a nice life for them, unencumbered by onerous taxes, extensive laws, nasty, self-serving bureaucracies - ie, a capitalist, Western style democracy, versus socialist bureaucracies.
It isn't really that capitalism depends on a nuclear family - it's that nuclear families want democracy & capitalism. Capitalism creates an educated, prosperous middle class, which is necessary to democracy. Middle class people tend to have nuclear families, and nuclear families tend to be more prosperous than single parents.

Well people believe a family is the core of the society because if a person has a broken family {such as one parent } they are 36 times more likely to end up in jail . Also people are vehemently opposed to homosexuals and people believe if homosexuals are married it would become the norm and somehow corrupt the youth .

Well from a marketing standpoint you get more bang for your buck as far as the number of people you reach. Commercials during SpongeBob will be seen by two people if a Dad is watching it with his son as opposed to one if the kid's Dad is not around. And who has the buying power? Dad of course.
