I went to the doc when my period was about 6 or 7 days late and he told me it would be to early to tell on a test if I was pregnant or not, even on a blood test so to come in agian in a week. how come it's to early?...he said he'd go ahead and do the tests and it would probably come out negative and they did...so I have to come agian in a week because it's to early, and they have to do a special blood test because of my medication I'm on. My husband and I had intercourse on all my fertile days and then some pretty much every other day for 3 weeks. and my period never came and it's never late!

If you had a blood test a week after your period was due, then you aren't pregnant. Those tests are pretty much 100% accurate at several days past ovulation. Do you know for sure you ovulated(confirmed by OPK, or basal body temp increase)? If you didn't ovulate this cycle, you may not have a period. I'd try to figure out if you're going to ovulate anytime soon using your method of choice---OPKs are great but even better if you are charting your cycles. Good luck!

Blood tests look for increased levels of a specific hormone that would indicate pregnancy. If the medication you are on requires a special test, it may be because it would give a skewed reading. Wait at least another 3-4 days to give the hormone time to build up. There is also an otc pregnancy test that claims it can detect pregnancy in as little as a few days. Might want to try that if are really anxious.

That does sound a little odd to me unless there's a medical reason. Each of the 3 days before my missed period I had positive home pregnancy tests. I waited a couple days then did another one before going to the doctor. I brought all 4 positive tests with me. When they did the urine test at the Dr. it said negative. He was very confused when I showed him all the positives and sent me for bloodwork. The bloodwork showed my HCG levels were at 200 and as long as they are at 50 it will show positive. The reason I can think of having to wait that long is if your period is super irregular and there's no real way of knowing if it's late.

Well, sounds to me like you've got other issues going on. For most women, you can tell within a week after a missed period. My sister knew from the moment of conception. She called me at three in the morning and was whispering and said, "Dude, I think I'm pregnant." I was like when? How late are you? And she was like, no, I just had sex twenty minutes ago and I feel weird and I think I'm pregnant. I didn't believe her until three weeks later she drags me into her house and shows me. Weird.

Anyway, each woman is different. To be 100% sure, they generally wait until you are 5 to six weeks along.... because during that time, there is a very high risk of miscarriage. Most women don't even know it's happened... they just think their period was a little late and they are just having a heavy one. It's okay.

Just listen to your doctor and stay calm!

I'm not sure. Most modern pregancy tests can be done from the day your period is due. The tests you buy at a Pharmacy are basically the same one your Doc would use anyway, so why not do one at home? Best of luck, I really hope it works out for you xxxx

You have to give the hormones a chance to be in big enough numbers to show up on a test! If you are pregnant, the baby is way to small to see or feel! Give the man some time, he is a doctor, not a miracle worker.

It takes a while for the pregnancy hormone to enter your system after the egg has been fertilized. It is still very soon so just be patient and listen to the doc, those guys are usually pretty good.

it takes time for the pregnancy hormones to build to a traceable level, generally the rule is six weeks from the first day of your last period. So your doctor is right, it's too early to tell. Frankly, I'd wait two more weeks for good measure, but one thing for sure, you need to relax and chill, what will be will be.
