The current running argument for Facebook is privacy, and only your approved friends can see your profile.
Offer to show your parents your Facebook profile once a week, or when they want.
Also, ask them to sit down with you and use Facebook for a while. Let them see what it is for, and how other people use it.
An open, honest policy with your parents is best.

Facebook is a lot more safer than the other social networking sites out there. You could control who can see your pictures and information (like only for your friends) on the privacy settings. And Facebook doesn't just let anyone become your friend automatically. They will let you confirm it first from you. And even if you are already friends with that person, but still have a suspicious feeling about them, there is a limited list for them if you know what i mean. you can even block them in the block list.

Parents need to realize that Myspace, Face book etc. Are the new thing for kids now. Just after signing up make sure take out your zip code out and don't put anything to personal on your page... If you make it harder for someone to actually track you down, more and likely they wont try because there are way to many stupid kids now posting information like where they live, there phone number and all that (sad to say). there looking for them stupid kids though... Just be careful... and try to discuss with you mom how privet you can be. And if she still doesn't want you too... then just sign up anyways! Just be safe about please.

Why not suggest that they have full access to your account (username and password) so they can check in a be sure that nothing inappropriate is happening. You've got to build the trust and slowly, they should start letting go a bit on their end and trusting your judgement, but you've got to make a compromise here.

Your parents have good reasons for concern. I don't know how old you are, but younger people who are less experienced on the Internet may encounter some dangers on Facebook. I think you should respect their wishes.

Great answers from all ...Honesty works best all the time.
Don't get mad at your parents..all they are doing is watching out for you. The internet allows so much freedom this days and easy access to predators and crazy people., protect yourself too...
