Banks are 'cracking down' on people who spend money they don't have ..

...however it does seem a bit mean .. why not give them a call (be nice to them**) ... say you are very sorry, you didn't realise you were going over your limit (which I would guess is £250) and can they extend your overdraft to £500 and would they re-reimburse the £38 quid on this occasion since you never realised you were going over the limit ??

If the say 'yes' to the overdraft, ask nicely if they will resend rent payment again (this is NOT automatic .. once the (standing order ?) 'failed' it will not be run again until next month )

** don't be nasty to them - the person you will be speaking to is paid about £5 an hour to do a sh*t job dealing with upset and often aggressive customers = remember THEY have YOU by the b*lls here ... any aggro & you will soon be 'neutered' :-)

Next month STOP SPENDING MONEY YOU DON'T HAVE ..

Yes, they usually can. Most banks only allow a certain limit in overdrafts (I'm in the US and it's usually $200) without giving an insufficient funds notice. Some also have limits on how many times this can happen. Check your bank's policies and talk to you landlord to explain the situation.

After a certain amount of times, the bank will stop paying on your behalf. You cant count on them to cover your butt. Stop being short.
