The structure of the military is one in which the majority are republicans .
For good reason , because they always spend more money on defense and look to expand our troop deployments around the world to protect vital interests .
Those interests are mining facilities around the globe . They also promote and protect agricultural and forestry products and back governments we contract land leases with to exploit natural resources .
Republicans are all about business and what good business does not have an enforcer to keep competitors at bay . Over seas it is our military and at home it is the police state and publicly elected officials who have regulated the free enterprise system in to an early grave .
SO far freedom has just been lowered into the grave and a shovel or two of dirt tossed on it . The body is still warm and it might be able to be resurrected .
By the way the grunt who does all the actual fighting is a democrat usually ,and the one giving the orders is a republican . The republicans are also the ones providing any commentary given to the press .
Strange that the handful of democratic generals all want policy changed and troops stationed in the United states .

No. It doesn't matter to me, because it's not a requirement and we don't have national service anymore. Your service is paid for in the military. You don't do it for free. I love all of these people that claim that their military service proves to all that you have somehow more civic virtue than someone who has not. That's ludicrous. The old generals you mention were easily electable for the same reason people are today: good press. I would consider a candidate's military service as a tie-breaker if I really couldn't decide on the candidates based on their policies and positions on current events. There is enough difference between Obama and McCain in their stated positions that military service doesn't even enter into the equation. A lot of people in this country worship military leaders. Thanks, but I prefer a civilian government, not one that is filled with military people.

Military Personnel, as well as the rest of us, should have the right to affiliate with whatever party fits their own value system the best. Anything else is complete BS

I served my country without regard to the politicians because it was the right thing to do. I didn't always agree but I still served my country. Lots of guys were repubs and lots were dems. The one thing we all knew were the guys that had to have gov't assistance in the form of foodstamps in order to feed their families. Now that is a f--ing shame.

Nope, and I couldn't agree more.
However, in the five years I've been with my husband (he's US Army), I've only met one Democrat...and he's only a Democrat because he knew it would anger his parents. Besides, it had the shorter line. No kidding. He did like former President Clinton, though. He's only one of two soldiers I know who do.
My husband is the same as me: Unaffiliated with either political party.
And you're absolutely right. What does it matter?

It just so happens that 93% of them are conservative and for the most part republican. I'm not a repub but I do have eyes and I was in the military.

No it doesn't matter nor should it.Interesting point you've made; How do you feel about Americans who say that President Bush "isn't their President"?Is he not the President of the United States and therefore the President of ALL of the people?

Exactly.
Someone actually in the military has more balls than any of the armchair political pundits you see here pointing fingers about who's more patriotic.
