The Heated PC vs. Mac debate will rage on in till the end of time. Picking either one has its perks and downsides. If you want to do anything. Figure out what your going to do on the computer itself before you buy it:
If Your A Huge Gamer, you speak 1337 fluently, and attend LAN parties regularly. Chances are you'll want to stick with a PC. Since they're are TONS of companies that make parts for Windows machines, upgrading is very cheap, and a piece of cake if you know how.
If Your not very knowledgeable about computers, you want something easy that's more user friendly. Something just to take pictures with or make home movies with. You should pick up a Mac. Alot of software comes pre-installed on the mac so you can jump right in. Macs are also insanely user friendly. As stated before, they can run windows too if you work in an office where you need a Windows OS.
If your just wanting to make music on the computer (Like I do Myself.) Its up in the air really. There's great software for both. So it just goes down to budget and personal preference there.
Now for the bad stuff along with pros after words :D :(
As many Mac fans will state every time this debate comes up. PCs do get viruses, hacked, crashed and usually require a bought (or downloaded) software to keep everything out.
However doing that more or less teaches you things about the PC your running on. You mature a little bit as a computer user and learn things along the way.
As for Mac users, they have problems too that's why this website ex hists: ( http://www.macfixit.com/ ) mac users have problems just as PC users do. The only glitch here is theres only one company that makes Mac parts!! (omg :o) Also makes can be very pricey to fix. I used to have an Ipod (ill admit it :( ) and one day while walking my dog, it gave me the smiley face of doom screen. After straining my fingers with key combinations and hitting the dang thing, i called tech support. They told me this was my one and only tech support call. I couldnt deal well with that. However, when i did get through, the guy did help me fix my Ipod (only for it to break again, 2 weeks later..)
In short. Figure out what your doing on the computer, Factor in your budget and take your gut feeling into thought to. If you like how a mac looks, Go for it. Like Videogames? Choose PC.
Thanks for readin ;)

It's hard to avoid the commercial, because, if you've watched ALL the commercials, they've pretty much covered ALL the reasons. (I'm anti-Bill-Gates.)
One big reason is that, it's like "the old days," when Microsoft "stole the court" from IBM. IBM lost its creativity, became a bunch of white-suit-and-tie stuffed-shirts, sure of its dominance. Now, Microsoft has become too sure of itself, a bunch of stuffed shirts, and Apple is stealing the court, with creativity. I like that.
Another is that, SOMEONE, some group of people, have to jump onboard, for MacOSx to become popular. Folks think Windows is popular JUST BECAUSE Windows is so popular. Some of us have to start the ball rolling. MacOSx has its design advantages.
Applications somewhat sit on the disk space, unfettered, instead of being "required" to become sort of "registered" and "part of" the system. To fetch a new app, just move it into place.
The system is "somewhat" less vulnerable to viruses.
MacOSx has virtualization: you can run a copy of Windows as a (heh, heh) window (with the proper software). Can you run MacOSx on a PC? (I haven't heard of it...maybe I'm underinformed!)
Of course, on the downside, Macbooks are $pricey$ and you're tied to ONE manufacturer! For Windows you can choose from several manufacturers to run a copy of the software.
Good luck!
