i got my 1st hit record in 1958, shortly after me & ELVIS were inducted in the military,born in southern Ohio..my mom died when i was 5..younger sister was given up for adoption cause daddy couldn't afford to feed the xtra mouth..set out for california at an early age with 25 bucks in my pocket..things looked bleek, so i took off for NASHVILLE where i recorded my 1st MAJOR HIT RECORD..SOLD MORE THAN A MILLION COPIES..it even won a GRAMMY(1964) it made it to the POP CHARTS AS WELL AS COUNTRY..OVERNIGHT SUCCESS after 15 years of trying..had 4 more TOP 10 HITS TO FOLLOW.

Well think I'll go with Bobby Bare since he was in the Air Force in the late 50's.

Bobby Bare is Canadian, I think. My first though was Carl Perkins, but that's not the right answer.
