There are a lot of reasons, and the assumptions of your question are incorrect. You could spend an entire semester examining this question, but I will try to sum things up in this tiny paragraph.

First, the amount of dollars printed doesn't affect how wealthy you are, as the value of dollars can go up and down. If you had a million dollars, you might think you're rich. What if I told you then that a can of soda costed $50,000, a haircut was $250,000, and a harry potter book was $375,000? Would you still think you were rich? What matters is wealth, how much stuff you have relative to others. Most of the wealth in the world is concentrated in the hands of a few individuals. This is true for the world, and for every country in the world. In poor countries, most of the wealth is concentrated literally in the hands of a few families, while everyone else starves. In the developed world, there is usually a middle class, which means most people are not starving, even if the rich have way more wealth than they know what to do with. That's why most people are poor. Almost everyone who has a lot of wealth is not willing to sacrafice their lifestyle so that others can eat. The rest of the problem is caused by greed.

You do know that money is also being taken out of circulation every day, right? The government is not just making new money to hand out to people. The money has a value and the government works to protect the value of the money. One way is to limit how much money is produced. If you print too much money then the money starts to become worthless. Some countries have had this happen to them. Their money devalues because there is too much in circulation. The government does not get richer if it decides to crank up the amount of money it produces.

Also, the government is not printing money and just handing it out to people.

well first off the money we carry around is based on how much goods we have ( such as gold, silver diamonds, etc...), so if we are printing new money we are probably disposing of old money. The U.S. really doesn't have as much money as you think, a lot of the money we do have belongs to all the rich people, really we have no money to spare with all the money we have given to other countries that will most likely never be able to pay it back themselves.
