You are off base asking this in the San Francisco heading. Mission San Luis Rey is in the northern part of San Diego County, off highway 76, near Oceanside CA. If you come here, there's a musuem on the grounds which answers all your questions. The church is beautiful but very precarious as it is considered unsafe in an earthquake. It has expansive grounds, is used a lot for conferences and retreats, and has a large cemetary on grounds which is at least 100 years old, and still in use for burial. It's quite a large mission, compared to the other ones in California. It's adjacent to the San Luis Rey River.
