You see in my family, my husband and I do not care for the traditional food. We all hate turkey, stuffing, cranberyy sauce.. and all of that. So at our hosue we have a little variety, Mexican food, hamburgers, macaroni and cheese, mini pizzas, hot dogs, chicken instead of turkey...

Our relatives got mad at us when they came to our house for Thanksgiving and saw that we were not serving the traditional meal and vowed never to come back to us again.

Do you spice up your thanksgiving away from this "traditional food" or do yo stick with the turkey and stuffing?

Actually your meal sounds nice. And I say go you for doing something different on Thanksgiving. It's not about what you eat, it's that you're spending time together, being thankful for having a nice meal with your family and friends.

I'll admit we dont' go exactly all out on Thanksgiving since my grandfather requests it be traditional, the only holiday we go non traditional with traditional is Christmas.

This year though my uncle said he might include some pasta dishes though.

But anyways I hope you guys have a very nice Thanksgiving.

My family does the traditional but since you guys don't like all of that stuff, I think you dinner is a great idea. I think that if I didn't like turkey and all of it and was having company, I would serve turkey along with what you guys like. I look forward to Thanksgiving because of the food so if I went to someones house and they made something else, I think i would be upset too. Good luck

You know, IF I was having over a group of people (and IF I had children still in my home) -- then the traditional meal of Turkey (or Ham) would be what I would cook ...

BUT ... now ... I am an Empty-Nesting Single Retiree, I am going to be the ONLY person in MY HOME at Thanksgiving ... so I am going to Cook MYSELF a Nice Steak Dinner with Steamed Veggies and sit down and view some DVDs and just relax -- because I can Grill that Steak Outside (I live near the Gulf Coast), and it is going to be a nice and comfortable day!

my family isn't from America, so they had never even heard of thanksgiving. we do celebrate it now and though they do include a few of the traditional food items, we mainly make whatever we feel to eat, including some dishes from our own country. I don't think that thanksgiving should be about the food anyways, it is more important to spend time with family, so i don't understand why yours got so upset...

I don't think you need turkey to be thankful. We are having barbeque and stew this year. It's all about being with family anyway. I would be happy with the hotdogs, hamburgers too. I have never been real big on turkey anyway.

Yes, it's a federal law you must have turkey, pumpkin pie, candied yam casserole with marshmallows on top, and the green bean casserole with the French fried onion rings on top.

Comply or die!
