Ok, I am getting pissed off at my own race, due to selfishness? Maybe. I hate that I have to work SOO hard, to get rid of so many stereotypes, other black people constantly try to form.Black Actors and Actresses are getting paid to reinforce these stereotypes instead of turning down roles that ask for these stereotypical type movie castings. I am tired, of fcking rap videos that have only black people in it looking like idiots, they seriously look like losers, I can barely understand them, they disrespect me, and the rest of the women out there, and then they are being rolemodels out there for kids who don't have their fathers at their home, and only can look at male rolemodels on television. It's ridiculous, I am PISSED OFF AT THE ADULT BLACK PEOPLE, who have the ability to act motivated, respectful, educated, nice, yet choose not to. YES I KNOW IT'S NOT JUST THE BLACK RACE, but it's more noticeable in the black race. I am tired of it. Selfishness, maybe. Should I feel this strong?

First answerer, ok, first of all, you don't know what it's like being black and having to get judged every freakin day, by someone who is ignorant who thinks that I already have 2 kids, am out of highschool, who is uneducated, who has a bad attitude problem.

Laced out? Why am I looking at celebrites, do you know how much media attention celebrities get? Do you know how much we are all involved in the media now and days. Watching T.V. is dealing with the media. I guess you don't watch T.V., Read magazines, or go on the internet. What am I doing to improve racial stereotyping? Hmm. I wonder what? I am am actually NOT ACTING STEREOTYPICAL.

I understand what you're saying. But please realize that you have to take the good with the bad and recognize that all black people are not responsible for what a few idiots do. Also know that there is not only one side to blame. Fault rests upon the shoulders of both the morons who perpetuate the stereotypes AND the morons who buy into them.

Just hang in there and try to make whatever differences you can.

Thanks for your question. ☺

Girl I understand you. I am personally going through this today in my own life. I am 13 and in 8th grade. I go to a prodonatlly white school. I have many black friends some white friends. The black guys at my school the act all tough and act like a pimp you know. Then my friends they dress just inapropietlly. I mean they wear the tightest jeans, the littlest shirts. I n science I get so angry because they act like they are afriad to do their work and to read. I get so mad because I know that they are smart but they just do not want to use their brains. They concentrate too much on being "getofabulous". Then you have the white people at school who think that being black is so cool. They "act black". Then you have the black people who try to act white! For example Rachel Jenkins. She is always yelling and blurting out in class. She always says "Omg, idk, what ever and stuff like that. Her voice is soo white. She is black too. Everyone calls her and her friends the "Preppies." Sorry that this is soo long but I am telling you this is rediculus! BET is always showing some black girl shaking the life out of her butt and flashing her breasts and all of this other crap. Then the guys on BET. Acting like thugs and doing drugs and stuff like that. The new word for black females now is "Hoe, Hore and Bicth." Thats not true, what you see on t.v is not how ALL black females are. This is really affecting my generation of black teens. I agree with you. If you have IM, I am going to Im you so we can talk more.

No. I personally do not feel compelled to prove anything, dispel anything or make anyone think anything about me. I'm married to a beautiful man, have a wonderful daughter and a happy life. I have a great career and i'm a killer in pool. I've got tattoos and used to have piercings. I used to front a rock band. Etc. Etc.

Point is, I'm me and that's all I can be. I'm not the people in the rap videos. I'm not the one in the welfare line or the one on the stripper pole or the one on the block.

And I personally don't worry about those types of people. And the non-black people I hang around judge me based on my character, not a perpetuated set of stereotypes.

You don't have to prove anything to anyone. If someone's going to judge you by the actions of others, then they'll judge you regardleess of what "best" foot you put forward.

Better just to not let it affect you.

I understand your fustration, but anyone who would judge you based on something other than who you are or how you act is an asshole... I mean look at it we are the only race that gets judge as a whole no one is running around avoiding or treating all white men badly because they "might be serial killers or pedophiles" Yeah black people as a whole need to straighten up, but I would be more angry at the dimwits that would make a judgement about me before they even know me

It's too late in the day to change your race and it's also obvious that you have to live with anger for all time to come. But,wait a minute, who is a looser or a sufferer ?Nobody except you. What you can do is have a clean break from the people/class/race you dislike and which makes you seethe with burning anger. If it's not possible in physical terms, try to do it mentally or via attitudinal shift. You don't deserve to suffer for the doings of others, who so ever they may be.OK,give it an experimental trial at least. All the best.

I would have probably said something along the same lines as I cannot understand how anybody could give up the chance to be married to a beautiful Indian woman. It is baffling I know but people are all different and sometimes hard to understand. :) If you value his friendship apologize and hope you can still be friends and next time don't try to understand the unfathomable. :)

Finally someone sees it. Thank you. If those people don't wish to be thought of in that sense, they should not portray themselves on video or movie in that sense. They are what Ice-Cube calls them "Uncle Toms" I don't think you're selfish, it's just you're seeing your race go down the tubes with no brakes. If they wanna be considered a "black" human being with equal rights, then they should start acting like it.

Should you be pissed off at your own race? I say "No." We are our own worst enemy when we take a look at how we stereotype ourselves.

Truth, Whites are not as interested in us as you are lead to believe. Unless the movie is starring Denzel Washington or Halle Berry, "they are not that interested." Since he rubs elbows with billionaires like Donald Trump, who could care less about Rap Music, whites are interested in Jay Z sorta, otherwise they don't give us or Rappers a second thought.

Believe it or not, Whites do not watch our movies and videos like they use to. Current record sales prove that point. Most of our movies are B movies and not Epic so they go straight to video anyway. Theorectically, "8 Mile" (Eminem) is a B movie like "Get Rich or Die Trying" (50 Cent) but did better in the box office partially because Eminem is White so they relate more to him and 50 Cent is more interesting to Blacks. Musically, if a Black artist album goes platinum or better its becuase they has some type of white following. Gold album-black money! Platinum album white money!

As a true Student of Hip Hop, I am appauled by the crappy rap and r&b music and videos that are mainstream and so-called portray us, but that crap has turned whites off which is why sales and radio play have been their lowest for this genre since it was recognized by a mainstream audience. Whites are suffisticated enough to see and hear the content is recycled and marginal.

As far as stereotyping goes, you need to keep it in perspective. No one, two, or 50 blaxportation movies or music videos tells the story of who we really are. Does watching a movie about Hannibal Lector lead you to believe all Whites are cannibals? The majority of women in the adult film industy are white, so dare I assume "all" white women are in the business? Does fliying a Confederate Flag mean you are racist? Whether we want to accept it, whites have there own stereotypes to contend with.

I am totally with you on our kids not having sufficient parentally, manly male influence. I was fortunate enough to grow up with my father in the house and I contribute it to my success. I have an MBA from USC, an upper level executive in a major corporation, and ultimitely living out my dreams, but many people are not interest in this information since being a successful minority is nothing new in this day in age. Remember, our Secretary of State is a Black Women.

At this stage in my life, "I absolutely do not care what/how White people see or think of me." Its to exhausting and solves nothing. As I stated earlier, we as blacks are our own worst enemy and critics on how we view and portray ourselves. In some cases we are victims of our own identity since we virtually feed off the same 400 year old Identity Sh*t Sandwich. Be mad at the film industry, directors, producers, and actors, don't take it out on the black race, because that means you are against even those that support you.

You're very much entitled to your feelings.

And, your position is probably made worse because if you don't act like the stereotypes, other blacks will probably accuse you of "acting white".

You're not selfish at all. Jesse Jackson would be mad at you, but Dr. Martin Luther King would be VERY proud of you.

I'm proud of you too. You seem like a very intelligent and thoughtful person. Kudos to you.

Should you be pissed off at your own race . . . .well no 'cause that's just a waste of energy and you have nothing to prove to anyone. Just be steadfast in the fact that you know who you are and those ppl don't. I mean like you said yourself they are losers.
