If you don't understand what a person is saying, tell them you don't and kindly ask them to rephrase their statement. It's better to ask than assume and be wrong.

LET THAT PERSON KNOW IN A NICE WAY THAT YOU CAN NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY ARE SAYING BECAUSE IF SOME ONE COULDN'T UNDERSTAND YOU, YOU WOULDN'T WANT THEM STAREING AT YOU LIKE YOU WERE STUPID OR SOMETHING.
