we are from the UK and are going from west to east at the end of april for 2 weeks. we have a full package deal including a 4x4. Any tips please??

April is great weather. As you get to Oklahoma some changes maybe a tornado. Never know.
So pack you summer items it will be warm.

You don't need the 4x4 for this trip -A Ford Mustang convertible is a much better idea . The 4x4's get abysmal gas mileage and their lack of decent high speed handling characteristics can be fatal.
That time of year be prepared for wind and a lot of sun until about OKC-which is ugly btw-
At higher elevations above 5000' ie GCNP lows in the high 40's highs in the 70's
across the deserts high 90's
OKC to Chicago expect rain in spots . The world will turn very green and you may miss the red rock . temp range 55-80
