The term GO is somewhat misleading. It is not exactly a matter of changing physical location, but rather changing frequency ranges.
The soul's "bandwidth" is higher than that of the body, so when it separates from the body, most of us can no longer perceive it. Similarly, you cannot pick up a radio or TV frequency without a radio or TV set. We have not yet succeeded in inventing anything that can detect frequencies and energy fields in that range.
Again, the concept of "GOING AWAY" somewhere is not altogether applicable because the higher planes (frequency ranges) co-exist with our physical plane and are all around us all the time.

In order to contact a disembodied soul, one would have to be able to "send" and "receive" within their bandwidth, and most of us cannot do that.
There are some, whom we call "spirit mediums" who can do this to a limited extent. However, that field is rife with fraudulence and exploitation, so that it is almost impossible to know how to find and recognize a genuine, legitimate "spirit medium". They DO exist (my maternal grandmother's best friend was one), but sorting the real thing from the phonies is a daunting task, at best, and darn near impossible at worst.

Trying to contact disembodied spirits (other than specific loved ones) is not a very good idea, however. The plane (bandwidth of frequency ranges) just above ours - which is about the only one that even the most sensitive "medium" can reach - is the spiritual equivalent of a trashed-out, crime ridden ghetto. It is "populated" by everything from "lost souls" whose own energy fields may be a higher frequency, but are too low in amplitude (too weak a signal) to allow them to "rise any higher", to dark sinister entities whose energy fields may be plenty strong, but are held at lower levels by their low frequencies. The former being unintentional parasites who will drain the energy fields of anyone they come near, because their own are so weak, and the latter who would be best describled as the spiritual equivalent of a criminally insane sociopath.
In any case, both are NOT entities you would want to meet the living equivalents of, so you CERTAINLY would not want to meet them in a disembodied state, either.

So, YES, a person DOES continue to exist and be consciously aware after death, but does not exactly GO somewhere - as in changing physical location. And, YES, it IS possible to communicate with a disembodied entity, but the ability to do so is very rare and it is not always advisable even when it IS possible.

Where Person Go After Death

There are many opinions regarding this, it's an age old question that has plagued mankind forever. It's obvious that it's not natural for us to die since throughout mankind's history, we have thought of several beliefs/theories/teachings to keep us living after we die. Through my studies of the Bible, I have understood that we do die (Eccl. 9:5,10; Psalms 146:3,4; Eccl. 3:19,20) and that the soul is not some mystical being that seperates from us once we die; but instead the Bible explains that our bodies are our soul and that the soul does die (Ezek. 18:4,20; Josh 10:28-39). That makes sense since Christ talked about a resurrection (John 11:17-24; John 5:21,28,29; Acts 24:15). In order for there to be a resurrection (bringing back to life) you have to be dead. What are the conditions of the dead? Looking at Lazarus' account (John 11:11-44), here he was a man that died and was resurrected by Jesus. If he had gone to heaven, surely the Bible would have made comments that Lazarus would have made about what heaven was like, or something to that effect, and that would have been recorded. Instead, the glimpse we get, is Jesus telling his disciples (John 11:11) that Lazarus has gone to rest and that he is going to awaken him from sleep. When the disciples thought he was only talking about resting in sleep, not knowing he had died, the protested slightly. After that, Jesus said plainly, the he had died. That gives us the best insight on what happens when we die, we get the best sleep we've ever had, awaiting a resurrection. Where will this resurrection take place? Again, according to the Bible, God has every reason to restore this earth the way He originally intended (Ps. 37:10,11; Isa. 11:6-9;). When that happens, all those in the memorial tomb will be resurrected, and have a chance to live in peace.

A morgue, funeral home, then either crematory or burial. The soul is kind of a pretend concept, so make it whatever you want.
