Im looking to get a reptile, but I first have to convince my parents, but I want to be sure that I convince them of the one I want.

I DONT want a leopard gecko (bad experience) and I want something a little bigger.

First of all, how long can a Beardy live in a 10 gallon tank. Ive got one 10 gallon, and 1 55 gallon. But the 55 gallon is my dads so ill have to be really good to be able to use it.

What is their personality like, calm and like to be held, jumpy, rather stay in the cage.

How much would you say the whole set up would cost, without the cage.

thanks

I happen to have a bearded dragon, so maybe I can help!! Yes, leopard geckos ARE bad.

A ten gallon tank will work, but its not best. I have a 30 gallon and it works well. I don't know if you know how big they are? IF you've only seen a baby, then they grow much much bigger.

They are very calm and slow moving, unless they get scared. They can RUN if they want to, but they don't usually. You know if they are scared because their beird will puff out greatly. Also, they LOVE the sun, so you'd have to commit like atleast 20 min of sun a week. AT LEAST. Ummm... I don't think they care abotu being held. Mine doesn't seem to mind it, but he doesn't want it, if that makes sense. They are fine if they stay in their cage a lot, but you'd probably want to pick it up for about 5 minutes at a time a day. I'm sure you know they need heat lamps that get to about 80 degrees F, maximum 95.

I'm not quite sure about the cost.... sorry

Well I love mine, but they are different from other animals, so yeah. Well if you DO get one, have fun with it! they live about 12 years if pretty healthy, so you should want one to commit 10 years to it. They can be boring too, so Don't expect it to be fun and loveable.

Well I'm glad I could help!

Even a hatchling should not be kept in a 10 gallon tank--way to small to get the proper heat gradient. The 55 would be perfect. They need basking heat lamps, UVB reptile bulb, no loose substrate--especially not sand, a variety of insects and a fresh salad daily. They need misting and baths. Temperatures must be correct for good health. Some like to be held, others don't. Setup without cage can run about $200.00 or more. Here are two great sites for complete care and feeding info:

Ok, they tend to be quite good with humans, my friend has one and will get it out all the time. They are not at all boring, can be very entertaining. Can be easy to feed (and pretty cheap). I not to sure on the price of setup though. My snake was £180, with the tank and snake included. Snake was £45, cant remember tank. But this was everything with it. As you have a tank already... doubt it will cost too much more than aroun £40-£50.
