There is serious work to be done in the kitchen and men are total amateurs at making Thanksgiving dinner. So guys, just keep clear of the kitchen - you might get hurt. Watch TV, keep the kids entertained, and park the cars. That's about it.

I think it depends on the family and the situation. If it's just a husband and wife, and she's in the kitchen slaving away while he's sitting there like a lump of poo, then there's something wrong with that. If it's a small family of mom, dad and kids, everyone should help. If it's a big gathering of relatives, generally the women like to gather in the kitchen to talk and the men can and should stay out. I personally think the TV should be off all together when it's dinnertime, but I'm a woman and decidedly NOT a football fan. But I definitely don't complain about it when I'm "company" at someone's house!
Oh and the men should definitely wash up (after the game of course)!

In my family the men help with every thing. My dad cuts the on-is for the Filling and Back Beans. My Husband cuts the Vegetables up. On Thanksgiving day My Uncle and his son set the table and us women put the food in bottles and plates why the men carry it to the table. After dinner they help to wash and dry the dishes. Then they take the kids out side to play and work on the race care to Dinner.

Last time I checked, men do "help out" on Thanksgiving. We do things other than cook the dinner, but we do help out. There are many tasks other than making the dinner that go into Thanksgiving.
Frankly, if in your house, men are not doing anything, then it's up to you to not be a doormat. Just get up in the morning and hit the couch. When someone asks you what time dinner is going in the oven, then you tell them whenever they get started on it is fine with you.

God I wish I could watch a football game. I havent watch a full game in yrs. I actually try to help where I can, whether its with the food, kids, or entertaining our guests.
Its the least I can do as my wife tends to stay up late the night before tryingt o organize the menu.

I'd rather my husband NOT help. It's a small kitchen and I like to move around quickly.
I only ask him to help lift the turkey, since I have bad wrists/hands but other than that, he can stay on the couch or the computer.

Women can't allow anything. Its like saying they rule and allow men to do as they please. Demanding things like that only helps increase the divorce rate. If they are swamped, then they should ask for help nicely and respectfully. I'm sure they will get more help that way.
