Yes, because America always preaches to the world how we're a FREE society (and that they're doing it wrong, or not enough). Heck, we even start wars just to "spread" the damn thing.

A person can go only so far these days without being seen on a surveillance camera. It would be a bad thing if you are doing something wrong. We should have the right to privacy however, read up on the Patriot Act if you want to see how much power the government has when it comes to surveillance!

It's not the surveillance so much as the willingness of the people to allow the surveillance to be misused.
Myanmar used theirs to identify and arrest protesters, but must have used a great deal of manpower from the military to do so.

Would this kind of cooperation and detention been possible in the US? Not likely. Our military cannot act upon the public, and our courts disallow such privacy violations - although the "free speech zones" are a definite constraint upon free speech that needs corrected.

Yes, it would. Would you be prepared to get into a gunfight every time the police came busting through your door with no warrant because you friend on the cell phone said "The party at 476's house is 'the bomb' " Key words like that in slang can be easilly misinterpretted by surveillance software, which would lead to many deadly 'misunderstandings'. I don't know about you, but if i'm not up to no good, and people come busting through MY door, they better be ready to catch lead.

Because people try to abuse the system, the system will abuse them in the end. We create rules for a peaceful society, then we don't follow them, then we create police, they are corrupt, then we create FBI, they are inapt, then we have surveillance, which will be used against the small citizen. us, we create it, we ask for it.
You can't have 300 Million People do, what they want, that's not freedom, its anarchy, so we get a police state, that's what we need to live save. What a world.

You can ask the Brits, they are currently enjoying a surveillance society, and so far no breach has been reported yet. We will never know unless we experienced it.

Yes. What happens when dissention becomes a crime? Either party could be victimized be whoever had power at the time. Questions of our leaders is a healthy thing.
