Lyrics for: Sloop John B

We come on the sloop John B
My grandfather and me
Around Nassau town we did roam
Drinking all night
Got into a fight
Well I feel so broke up
I want to go home

So hoist up the John B's sail
See how the mainsail sets
Call for the Captain ashore
Let me go home, let me go home
I wanna go home, yeah yeah
Well I feel so broke up
I wanna go home

The first mate he got drunk
And broke in the Cap'n's trunk
The constable had to come and take him away
Sheriff John Stone
Why don't you leave me alone, yeah yeah
Well I feel so broke up I wanna go home

So hoist up the John B's sail
See how the mainsail sets
Call for the Captain ashore
Let me go home, let me go home
I wanna go home, let me go home
Why don't you let me go home
(Hoist up the John B's sail)
Hoist up the John B
I feel so broke up I wanna go home
Let me go home

The poor cook he caught the fits
And threw away all my grits
And then he took and he ate up all of my corn
Let me go home
Why don't they let me go home
This is the worst trip I've ever been on

So hoist up the John B's sail
See how the mainsail sets
Call for the Captain ashore
Let me go home, let me go home
I wanna go home, let me go home
Why don't you let me go home

Great song
Like "Found a peanut" better

No grits and corn here today Wally, but plenty of Thanksgiving sides and pies, if you're hungry. And if you're looking beef, I'll even run up and get you a burger from Wendys! Humor?....well, once I finish getting this house ready for our company that will arrive tonight, then I'll finally be able to relax and chuckle a little.Till then, the pressure's on!

Ah, I loved that song...

Had the 45 of the Beach Boys' version... The flip side was "You're So Good to Me".

Sure, I remember the Kingston Trio. The song was originally a West Indian folk/calypso tune though. Sometimes I work with guys from Trinidad who still play it that way.

Happy T'Day... hope the cook doesn't eat up all of your corn!

peace

You have to be kidding! The yardsail is ripped to shreds, the main mast split and fell on the pilot's wheel, the bilge pumps are running night and day, the garboard plank has sprung from the rotting stem, and the mizzen mast is sitting at a 48 degree angle (don't walk under it). The mid ribs have rotted to the core, the hull fasteners have popped, and the anchor pulpit fell into the water last week. YOU get on the John B... I will stay in my rowboat, but thanks. Phil

That was sung by the Kingston Trio from their original album. Anyone remember them?
