IT'S JUST THEIR NATURE. IF YOU DON'T AGREE WITH THEM YOU ARE A BIGOT, RACIST, SEXIST, HOMOPHOBE.

Standard political faire. When you cannot dispute a position with logic and facts, discredit the source. I do feel the need to point out though that the far right is guilty of the same thing. (terrorist sympathizers, unpatriotic, communist, godless, etc.) In my opinion both sides need to show a little respect for the other. There are solutions to the problems we face as a people, but we will never arrive at them without meaningful, honest discussion free of rhetoric and hyperbole.

Are you kidding? Have you not listened to the Far Right. They have had a huge repertoire of names for liberals, including trying to stigmatize the word itself. They retaliate against anyone disagreeing with them. The Dixie Chicks are an example. John McCain is an example. Remember how he was a "friend to the Viet Cong"? John Kerry is an example. Max Cleland is an example.
Anyone disagreeing with a rightwinger is going to be called a "Friend of Osama," "unpatriotic," "treasonous," etc. etc. Read these forums. Some people cannot reply to an issue or a question without a personal insult.
Where have you been? Liberals may call George Bush on his way to fascism, and they may call Republican beliefs as "racist," and....if you have ever listened to Rush Limbaugh, you will hear a hate-monger broadcasting hate, but they usually try to discuss issues. It is the Far Right that depend upon name-calling, because they simply cannot rationalize their beliefs.
Maybe it is time for Liberals to give Republicans a dose of their own medicine. Liberals have been painted as sinful, immoral, depraved, etc....and their President lies, their elected Legislators have continually been indicted for crimes, their preachers have resigned for various sins, and their contribution to society seems to be huge indebtedness, Jesus Camps that teach children to kill, Gay Bashing, and Bumfighting! Those are not names. They are facts.

If you're on this forum very often, you'll know that it comes from both sides. To ask "Why do the far left contributors constantly name call those with alternate political beliefs from them" is as wrong as the bashing that comes fro both sides and implies it's only coming from the left. Wrong.

It is a disreputable, though common, debating trick to attack ones opponent's personality, instead of addressing his question.
There is a Marxist tradition of re-naming people and classes in order to change the terms of a debate. Eg 'rentiers', 'petit bourgeoisie', 'kulaks', 'class enemies' and finally 'enemies of the people'. Goebels later did the same thing eg 'Jewish parasites'.
Today, I always use the neutral word 'government', never 'regime', for those countries I disapprove of.

If the shoe fits, wear it.
You poor widdle victim. You act as if no body but those mean ol' lefties do any name calling. Get over it, troll. Both sides do it. At the highest levels the GOP seems to be engaging in more than the others. They offer no plans to solve the problems just name calling and personal attacks. Pay attention to reality.

the same reason that many far right contributors constantly name call those with alternate political belkiefs from them, I'm guessing.
some of my favorite examples of what liberals are called on this forum include:
fascist (weird; both sides say this?)
commie
tree hugger
limp wrist
bed wetter

Maybe because they got tired of just looking the other way when they were the ones being called names.
How does it feel?

They're an emotional brood. Thinking with their emotions first, their emotions also tend to do their talking for them.

They can't deny truth so they try to demonize it to make people revile you for telling the truth.
When they arrive at hell they will blame the evil Republicans for lying to them, but at that point they may realize they were in fact liars.
But hey who am I kidding they deny in hell for all eternity!
