I just received as a gift a 1986 Firebird Pontiac; V8 5.0 more or less?
My question is the RPM doesn't move pass 5 or 8 little lines.
From the bottom upward how or where should I take it too?
To get it to run right? Automatic on floor.

Ernesto please elaborate. Does the engine run but won't rev up? Possably clogged cat converter. 1986 car is 22 years old almost anything can be wrong. So first thing I would do is check compression then if good disconnect the exhaut at the manifolds or cat converter and see it it revs up then.

RPM is rotations per minute... how many time the crank shaft rotates per minute.
If your car drives fine, but the tach (RPM thing) isn't reading higher, it is probably just a problem with the tach it's self. I would check the wire that runs into the transmision that goes to the tach.. there is a small gear on the end that goes into thrte transmission. This is how it reads the RPS's. If this is greek to you, don't try to do it yourself and just take it to a shop.
