Okay. So we just moved in with my Grandma two weeks ago. She REALLY let this place go. We have guests tomorrow and we have to get this house clean. I'm on my own until three so it's going to be hard. Right now I have two feet of counter clean, but it has nasty circles from things sitting there for a year. How do I clean that up. Right now I'm using boxes labeled Trash, Laundry, Wrong Room, Toss. Toss is we ain't keeping in house and we will put in a storage building outside. I think I'm doing good considering. I'm on a break. I've been going for an hour. So what are some tips. I'm doing kitchen since Grandma has to get the turkey started when she gets home and then living room, my room (doesn't need but laundry, a little trash pick up and cleaning my mouse colony and vaccuuming.), laundry room, bathroom, bathroom, my brother's room, mom's room and I'm not even going to ATTEMPT Grandma's room. My brother is off to college, but his room is ugh. Mom is not home today. Yay me. NOT!Advice??

As for guests, 24 people. That's sisters, cousins, aunts uncles, EVERYONE. Then they bring their pets which is three dogs and two cats. We don't mind company. Mom didn't see need to clean. But, I see a 1 foot pathway disturbing and very embarrasing. I hope once I get it clean, it'l stay that way. The guests arive at 12 tomorrow.

Wow ! You have quite a workload ahead of you... Are you having out of town company for Thanksgiving? If you are then I would suggest really cleaning the rooms that the company would be in the most... Kitchen, bathroom, livingroom/family room and guest room.. The kitchen needs top priority since food/drinks will be prepared there... Get anything NOT needed out of there.... If you can just pitch ANYTHING without a date...

Start with the fridge empty and toss anything "growing".... Wipe down the fridge and clean the racks... Etc... Freezer ditto.... Then replace contents... If the racks are too big for the sink use the bathtub. Just put a towel down on the bottom of the tub to keep any glass shelves from getting broken/scratching the tub... Put fresh box of baking soda in fridge/freezer.

Clear off counters and spray with cleaner.. Let sit 10 minutes and wipe down with paper towels.. You may need to depending on cleaner rinse with water..

Wipe down cabinet doors/appliances with cleaner.. Change water often if dirty...

Sweep floor or vacuum floor throughly.... If you can clear the room of tables/chairs... Mop floor... May need to rinse floor if it's hasn't been cleaned awhile... If there's a rug in the kitchen wash it.. If you can.. Scour the sink and rinse well....

Good cleaners in the kitchen are VINEGAR... Great for food prep surfaces and mopping takes off any waxy residue and is NOT harmful if ingested !

Livingroom/dining room... Start from the top of the room and work DOWN... Get a broom/long handled duster.. Even the vacuum cleaner attachment will work and get rid of cobwebs... Vacuum furniture and dust any tables and knick nacks... Wipe down lamps/television.. Lastly vacuum carpet or vacuum hardwood and lightly mop w/ vinegar...

Bathroom... Bleach is your best friend... Pour about 2-3 cups into the toilet bowl and let it sit for 10 minutes-1 hour... Spray mixture of water/bleach... 80% water/20% bleach and spray sink/tub tile surround let it sit... Wash shower curtain in the washer or replace if moldy.... Clean mirror/counter(s). Make sure there are fresh towels hung and any rugs are washed.... Make sure there's toilet paper and hand soap.

Bedrooms... today might NOT be the time to tackle bedrooms w/o help.... If guests are staying try to get a room that's nice.. Put anything that doesn't belong in a laundry basket and sort it out later. .Wash ALL bedding ! Dust for cobwebs/vacuum floor..

Good luck.....

Use the "Easy Oven" cleaner to clean out the oven since that is where you'll be making the turkey. Use Mr. Clean Eraser for the stove top, counters and base boards. Use Fabuloso for your floors (It smells great). If the bleach doesn't work, put some CLR on it. Clean the main rooms first (kitchen, living and guest bath) as these will be the rooms most will visit first. If you plan on having others tour your home and don't have enough time to clean it all, toss everything in the closet, vacuum/dust well and make the beds. And for the final touch, get some cinnamon candles (Hobby Lobby is a great place) and light them to get the holiday smell going. Good Luck! I"m working on my house too! As soon as I can tear myself away from Yahoo Answers.=P

Buy the Mr. Clean Erase it sponges. (2 to a box) They are awesome at cleaning quickly.

Take everything off of the counters, shelves, just clean. You can put everything back when you are done. Dust.

Vacuum. Sweep. Wash the floors. Have a plan that makes sense for how the house is set up.

It's really hard for the elderly to keep up a house. I know some of them, maybe a lot won't accept help. They become afraid to let someone in or to trust someone.

Good for you to want a clean house and not expect Grandma or Mom to do it all. Don't stress out. You can always shut the doors to a few rooms and get them later (before Christmas maybe) Put on some music that you and Grandma can dance to and when you're finished, embrace the feeling and smell of a clean house. Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving.

Clean only the rooms that you expect company to be in. Shut the doors to all other rooms. As for cleaning the nasty circles on the counter, take a little bit of bleach and let it set on the stains for a bit then wipe it up with a damp cloth... Depending on the severity of the stain, you may have to do this a couple of times. Do a little test patch first in an unnoticeable area to make sure that the bleach doesn't hurt your counter tops. When you fill up one "Toss" bag, throw it outside in a trash bin.

Dish detergent makes an excellent scouring powder to use on counter and sinks. I htink that you are doing a great job.

Always start top to bottom and back to the door (start in the furthest room and work backwards).
