I don't eat it, I mostly stick with Provolone, Colby Jack and Mozerella Cheese....
but I always wondered, what makes that particular Cheese "American Cheese". Wasn't it invented by a Canadian anyway? (for some reason that is stuck in my head... not sure if it's true or not)

Although processed cheese was first invented in 1911 by Walter Gerber of Thun, Switzerland, it was James L. Kraft who first applied for an American patent for his method in 1916 Kraft Foods also created the first commercially available sliced process cheese, which was introduced in 1950. This form of sliced cheese with its derivatives were to become ubiquitous in America, most notably used for cheeseburgers and grilled cheese sandwiches. Processed "American Cheese" also has a legal definiton under the FDA.
In reality every country where sheep, goats, Llama or other milk producing animals are raised has it's own native cheeses, even places like Mexico.
On a personal note, American Cheese always reminds me of Hollywood movies, it's kinda bland, isn't that satisfying and has spread like a cancer across the world.

Because the title American Cheese still applies. Even if it reads American Cheese Food or cheese food product.

A Mexican invented cheese when he picked the gaps between his toes and forgot to wash his hands before straining his milk.
We get Canadian cheese in the UK.

Being from Wisconsin "American" Cheese is the cheap stuff I don't even give to my dogs.
I don't know who invented it but he knew nothing of cheese.
You can thank the Swiss for it.

We do, in Canada. It's only in America you say American Cheese, American Thanksgiving, America's Fave food etc. In Canada we don't need to put the Stamp "Canada'' on everything we own.
