Yes. I have a license with my state and city. In Washington State, most cities expect us to have a licence in every city our clients live in. Which is just a bit crazy!

Each state has different rules. In my state, there are four different things that determine if you pay a business and occupation tax.

Income tax on your income is paid to the Feds and if your state has an income tax, there, too.

The IRS web site had very good info on Federal Tax. And if you have questions, you can call them at 800-829-1040

And each state has it's own income tax or business tax or both. And then there is sales tax. Again, most often the state has classes that help you determine what to do, too.

As for sales tax AVON taxes us, which on my accounting program I call TAX AT SOURCE. Then I have to tax my clients and at the end of the year get the money back from the state for the difference between what I was taxed at, the tax from the items I sold, and then the items I used for demo, gifts or myself.

Ya... it's a business!

No = so long as you do less than 16 hours per week and are still available for other work during normal 'working hours' (i.e. 9-5, M-F) you can still claim Job Seekers... (if you decide to go 'self employed' you will have to pay your own NI 'stamp' AND you will no longer qualify for Job Seekers OR Invalidity Benefit).

If you actually make any money (doubtful) you should declare it in your annual Personal Assessment Tax return as 'other Income not taxed at source'.

You are not self employed. What you sell is not your creation. You did not find the Company. You have a boss, who you give a percentage of your keeps to. You are not self-employed. You are a sales person based on commissions.
