Why Chess of course. I learnt how to play eleven years ago, took me only a few hours to learn. I've had some very intriguing games since then I remember the day I checkmated a very good friend of mine he is as studious as I am so that was a very very tense game.
Last year I had a friend who was playing chess with someone online and she didnt know how to play so through MSN Messenger during the last ten moves I was giving her the moves this guy had no idea what had hit him. She would obviously give me updates but during the final moments when she promoted her pawn to Queen then all bets were obviously off. I remember she had said how she was going to move another piece in case this guy got suspicious and I went ballistic. I had it all worked out how the game was going to end and end it did with victory. I dont mean to sound like some kind of grandmaster here but I'm very sure other chess players will agree with me that there is such a sense of pleasure and achievement when during a very intricate and much thought out strategy when the pieces all come together and culminates into your opponent being checkmated or when theres no other option but to resign.

Checkers? Far far far far too easy wheres the challenge? Wheres the well thought out moves? Wheres the monotonous silence that emanates throughout as the brain ticks over in between moves that could last anything from a few seconds to innumerable minutes.

I do have a chess computer I bought back in 1996 but the thing cheats and wont let me make any tactful moves. Ahhh dear man against machine is one thing man against man well two minds pitting their wits is another.

Chess. I usually end up killing my self in checkers, I'm not good at checkers strategies for some reason, maybe it's because all the pieces are the same and I'm not used to that.

I think they both are the same amount of popularity because Chess and Checkers are the top 2 board games.

Checkers, since I don't know how to play chess. I've thought about buying one of those computer cd's to learn, tho. Looks like it might be challenging and fun.
