I'll tell you something worse than the others.

I have terminal, yes I said TERMINAL, emphysema. I started when I was 17 and it was the worse mistake of my life.

I'm probably 30 years older than your dad, but was given 5 years to live 10 years ago. I almost DIED 6 times in the last 3 years, placed on LIFE SUPPORT each time. Once the doctor said, "Your blood O2 level is so low, I don't understand why you're not dead."

You like sports? Forget it. I can still throw a football 70-75 yds, and hit a baseball 400 ft, but I can barely walk 75 feet.

You like to swim? Forget it. I can't hold my breath for more than 10 seconds, and that's sitting still.

You like girls. Forget it. Most won't like you.

And, when you get older (50's), FORGET SEX, gone, audios. Guess what you need most to have sex? You got it, BREATHE!!!

And, DON'T FOR A SECOND think emphysema is like asthma. Look it up on the Web and learn.

I hope I'm scaring the sh!t out of you. I wish someone scared the sh!t out of me at that age. They tried, but I didn't listen.

Don't make the same mistake. You will regret it, believe me, you will regret it.

I know you don't want to hear this now, but I promise you--

Everyone I know that started smoking between the ages of 13 and 16 now smoke at least a pack a day and can't run a mile and a half without stopping in the middle. All of them say "oh I wish I could stop smoking, but I can't" or they actually try to stop smoking and then start up again 3 months later. And these aren't even old guys, I'm talking about young guys in their mid 20's.

Smoking is extremely addictive and the earlier you start, the harder it is to quit! If you want to be in any kind of good shape in 10-15 years and don't want to dish out what will end up being thousands of dollars on cigarrettes by then, I'd suggest you forget the cigarrettes. By the way, the guys that I know who smoke like that kind of stink too! Their car, clothes and breath always smell like cigarrettes and it's f@#king gross.

I know your 14 years old and you are going to do what you want to do, but just know what you are getting into. This sounds really bad, but you'd actually be better off smoking a joint than a cigarrette because weed isn't addictive. I'm not actually suggesting that you smoke weed, I'm just saying smoking cigarrettes is actually worse (in the long run and the short run).

Im a smoker.

You may think its pretty cool, enjoy the small feeling or the "Nicotine rush" that you get.

Once you smoke properly for a week or more, you stop getting that rush, and start to cough alot. Realising that your lungs are slowly detiating into nothing.

It can cause problems in having children at later life, and you feel stupidly helpless to do anything but smoke when your body tells you it wants one. It owns you, and you work hard every day to earn the money for the privelage to die.

Trust me, I started young.

DONT.

I had my first cigarette at 16... I am now 26 and wish I could stop, but I can't. Also, I was diagnosed with cancer in April and start my second treatment of radiation in December. I still cant stop smoking... It's not a good Idea buddy.

Fight your urge, it will benefit you in the long run.

It's not as good with the tobacco. You enjoy the minty taste but the tobacco adds a whole different dynamic. It's very harsh and you only get a hint of the menthol that you like.

Wow don't do it is a understatement. I started smoking around your age and I kept telling myself I can stop this anytime I want to but I never did until I was addicted. I smoked for over 20 years. I had a sinus drainage down the back of my throat 24/7 not to mention what I smelled like not kewl back and if you ever kiss anyone who smokes it is just nasty it taste like you just licked a ashtray.

The cost of cigarettes is unbelievable complete waste of money. You will lose your ability to breath as well you will get winded in no time. You will lose your sense of taste that makes you salt food way more then it needs because you cannot taste as well when you smoke.

Smoking will stain your teeth and dry your skin out making your skin wrinkle at twice the speed it should. After you are addicted quitting will be one of the hardest things you will ever have to do it is misery. I know I quit after 20 years cold turkey. This month marks my 10th year of not smoking! I would NEVER touch another cigarette.

My Dad started smoking when he was about 8 years old and died at 80 I watched him suffer with lung problems for years. He used to love to go and do things hikes walking around the mall with my Mom he got to the point he still had the desire to go but he could not breath well enough to walk that far anymore all he could do was sit and wait for her to come back.

He did not stop smoking next he got breathing treatments 4 a day he still could not breath well enough to go anywhere much and he still did not stop smoking. He got asthma and emphysema he still did not stop smoking. His breathing got so labored and he struggled for each breath so hard it was sad to watch and he still did not stop smoking.

He died this past Oct.

If you think you are immune to addition you are sadly mistaken. Save yourself the money the time and the misery cigarettes will bring to your life they are not worth it but you are. Encourage your father to quit asap. Good luck
PS unfiltered pot cigarettes are just as bad on your lungs

Don't start!! I started smoking at 14 (I'm 26 now) and wish that I never had. It is a horrible, horrible habit and will make you sick and it destroys your health (I am constantly getting sinus and respiratory infections)....it's just not worth it! If you like the menthol flavor, buy some gum and chew it....just please don't start smoking...
