I dont know but you are not alone. Sometimes things dont go the way they should or the way you plan them. I try to have a backup for everything. Even a backup friend that will always make time or talk to me when Im about to lose control. If that friend is NEVER there, they dont want to be. Lose that one and move on. They will come around sooner or later.

Because when you need someone most there are graeter expectaions from the person, so no-matter how much the person had done it will seem as if the person is not there, compare to when you don't need the person(ie you don't have any expectation from the person) no-matter how littlt the person does it will seem as the person has done very greatly because you weren't expecting anything.

Maybe because the person does not know that you need them at that moment! I have relied on intuition at times, and called or emailed someone to say hello! It could also be that they are so busy and forgot to check in with you. It happens to me all the time! Fly out and visit, I will always be there for you!

That never happens to me, so I don't really get it, but ...

Is this a matter of "they're not there for you when you need them," as in, they know, but they're distancing themselves from you anyway?

Or you need them but they don't know it, and you can't find them to talk to ?

I guess I'd need to know more about what's going on. I don't know what it's like to need someone, because I always have everyone I need. I don't take them for granted at all, they're just always there for me.

What's the back story, John? You okay?

Because when you're in trouble (with a spouse, gf/bf, or even yourself), and you see other people happy, you're going to tend to look for the bad in those "happy people"

And that's why it SEEMS like people aren't there for you, but you've ALWAYS got someone who really cares for you that's there for you.

Well, that's how I see it.

If you are talking about relatinships- is because there is "no trust", no respect, no "Law of Reciprocation", no integrity and no motivation, neither "S/he", "they" are open minded-Anywhere, to any subject any time.

If you are talking in general I suggest you apply the SMART metrics combined with trust, respect, dignity, integrity, accountability and organized planning and I think someone is going to be there for you when you need him/her ther most.

SMART METRICS are:
S--Specific
M--Measurable
A--Attainable
R--Realistic
T--Timely
Apply these values to your life and I think you will get what you want, and somone is goning to be there for you.

Because thats life sad but true :(
I also ask myself these questions:

1)why when you like someone they never like you back
2)why is popularity important
3)why cant people stop trying to be unique in doing so there just like everyone else
4)why is life hard?
Thats just the way it is unfortunatly you have to work for what you need.
