Just looked in the building regs section 17 - "Access and facilities for disabled people".

The single leaf opening needs to be 1000mm - see section 17.21, it shows it on diagram 17.8

grab rails, loo and basin position are also defined.

Our local council guidelines ( just looked for you ) also say 1000mm

where possible a disabled access door should open outwards.

Of course this is generic disability wheelchair access. There are many forms of disability including blindness, deaf, limbless and you don't really say what.

If you are just doing a private residential job and they haven't specifically asked for disabled access you do not have to follow these regs, just normal bulding regs.

If you private email me your address I'd be happy to send you a photocopy or jot down some of the distances for you, no probs.

I believe that a shower opening for ada is 36". I am not sure if you are asking about a shower door or the door to the room. Min. door opening is 32" rough opening for that would be 34". Hope this is what you were asking.

A wheel chair will go through a standard 30 inch door but inside the regulation require a 1100 mm square for the wheel chair to turn round.

If you are constructing an "en suite" which will require access for a wheelchair you should be thinking of a metre width, but then it depends on the type of wheelchair, Best have a measure up

normally for this i would leave an opening to accommodate a 3ft wide door ...you can get away with 33inches ..that's a standard door but its best to buy a 3 by 7 door blank and cut it to fit
