given the plethora of bogus cheques these days from all of those Nigeria email scams [and similar others], I rather suspect no one will take the chance.

IF [big if] the cheque was issued by a person or firm in the area, their bank should cash it -- assuming you present proper identification and it was written directly to you. Never having received a cheque that large, I can't say if there will be an impost on behalf of Inland Revenue.
{Cheques written to another party and signed over to you will likely not be cashed without the presence and identification of the other person/firm.}
