6x + 6y = -2
6(x + y) = -2
x + y = -1/3

so
y = - x be replace inside the equation
x - x = -1/3
not the solution!
i think you post the wrong question

6x-6y=-2

y=-x

6x-6x=-2
0=-2
undefined because it would be -2/0

There is no solution. Simply because if y= - x , then if you substitute it into the first equation 0= -2 which contradicts the first equation that y is equal to -x. Therefore the answer is that there is no solution, and y is not equal to -x

2007-11-21 09:45:05 · answer #6 · answered by James J 1 · 0 0

sub in -x for y and you get
6X+6(-X)=-2
so you get
6X-6X=-2
simplified becomes
0=-2
which is an inequality

hope this helps!
