I didn't think much of it last year when I heard they were doing away with it, but this year cash is scarce with gas as high as it is as well as everything else, it seems. I will be shopping at K-mart this year since my kids wish list for santa includes lots of electronics which are not cheap.

I heard they were doing away with lay-away because they were pushing their new credit cardf and people were using gift cards more. I think wal-mart has forgotten who made them rich- us consumers trying to raise a family on a limited income! Credit cards? give me a break! I hate credit cards, why would I pay 5-19% more for items just so I can buy on credit! Wal-mart wasn't loosing money, they just figured they could make more pushing consumers to use their credit card!

I was upset that they did away with Lay Away too. Now the only place to go would be K Mart. Being that money is tight in our household, we had to do a bit of our Christmas shopping at K Mart, since I don't want to get a Wal-mart card and pay the interest.

I was disappointed, I'm not sure why the did away with the lay-away. I thought that maybe they should open it up for Christmas only, maybe they can start in September or something like that. I didn't use it much, I don't have kids yet, but I remember my mom using it when I was little. My sister has started shopping at k-mart because of it.
Happy Holidays!

From what I heard last year is that they were losing money b/c alot of people weren't picking up there Items which in turn could have been sold if they were on the shelves. we also used the Walmart Layaway but started earlier this year and got the big stuff out of the way, so from now until x-mas it's just little things to fill out

I didn't like the idea of it at the time, but now I think it worked out better for me. Every week I just go out and buy a couple gifts, and dont have to worry with the hassle of the layaway.
We used to have to get the gifts out of layaway the first week of December, and I didn't like that either.
I guess for the really expensive items, then layaway would be good.

ME...I hated to hear that. As a single mom, that's how I did not only my Christmas shopping but for school supplies/uniforms as well. I do not think for a second that Sam Walton would be proud of how WalMart is being ran today.

It's getting hard to have a nice holiday, with gas prices high as they are, that makes you want to stay at home. And now there's a few stores that have lay-away. What's next?!

As I never shop in Wal-Mart (and possibly never have gone into one), I am not sad about this.
