What makes you think they aren't already? We're supposedly the world's only superpower yet we owe the Chinese so much money that if they decided today to call in our debts we'd be completely bankrupt.
Very scary thought.

Doubtful.

Why would we want a Communist power to come up as a rival superpower? The country is still controlled by an oppressive and manipulative government, one that I don't think we can trust.

China has a major problem. They lack the resources to keep their economy running. Before they can achieve true superpower status, they have to find some way to get those resources.

Some have theorized the best way for China to get those resources is to take part of Siberia from Russia, since that is the last really untapped resource area on Earth. Some have theorized that the next real war (as in among somewhat equivalent militaries) will be the US against China.

You people underate China they have always been a superpower better than the russians ever were. There just smarter about it. No bragging about how great they are they have been around longer than any other socalled superpower. The US is not a superpower because they don't have the balls to use the bomb & no other countries ever listen to us. We always do whatever it is they want. NAFTA for one & many others besides.

They probably are now as you describe above if you mean in 2nd place.

They hold many aces in the deck in their climb to the top. They are a Creditor Nation--we are a debtor nation. Their economy is based upon Mfg. Ours is based on service jobs. They have a much larger population. The people are dedicated to their country and the leaders are promoting their country to the top of the list(No matter the methods-it is happening).

Although our nation is and has been the worlds greatest and only super-power---decline started when we became a debtor nation. Our Mfg base is gone. It is doubtful if we could wage war as WW11 because we could not Mfg.the products necessary to do so. In fact we do not Mfg much of anything but are dependent on China mainly-- plus other countries for our necessities in about every field--seldom see a product labeled "Made in U.S.A.

Not until they get more responsible about the environment and caring for their own people in a much less repressive way. Not to mention being a whole lot more picky about their standards in manufacturing...

I think it would be good if China could manufacture products without lead in them.

The Red Dragon is slowly but steadily setting foot very close to home in Latin America, establishing close relationships with gov't there. They're surrounding us and by the time we know it and Wal-Mart realizes it, it'll be too late. We'll be speaking Mandarin/Cantonese.
