It will come on. The glass just protects the CRT which is basically a large Vacuum Tube. But, vacuum tubes can "implode" so you not want to start tapping on it to see if it will break.
How implosion works; the vacuum inside the tube first sucks everything in when it break. The velocity of everything hitting cause it to fly out in all directions. The glass on the screen may help protect a person, but, I would not bet money on it.
Many Televisions or Monitors not have a glass, the glass we see and touch is the front of the Vacuum Tube.

What do you mean by "no glass"?

A broken CRT? A missing CRT? A missing LCD panel?
