I thought the answer is D. Why is the answer A? I thought the order of operations was:

1 parenthesis

2 exponents

3 multiply/ divide

4 add / subtract

a b and c all say the same thing

d = twice the SUM (there's the key) of a number and 5

D is the correct answer. In translating an expression to a phrase, the 'order in operation rule' usually does not apply. For it would only make lengthy phrases. Remember that you are not interpreting the operation but the expression itself.

d is the not the right answer a is correct because you have to multiply 2 to everything in the ( ) so it would be 2x + 10 making a your answer

D is correct. A would be translated 2x + 5. The ()'s say you have to sum first.

because its 2 times the thing in the bracket
