Why on earth if your doctor giving a newborn vitamins? Newborns arent hyperactive and they dont need vitamins- you can over dose them on them and cause serious harm and even death. Their formula, or breastmilk, has all they require.

Doctors arent supposed to put babies and toddlers on them unless they do blood work first and KNOW there is a problem that a change in diet wont fix. Get a new freaking doctor before his malpractice causes harm- if this is how he is on simple little things I cant imagine how much he could screw up something big.

Babies arent born knowing how to sleep, you have to teach them. Keep the same routine and the same schedule for sleep time. Make it dark and quiet at the same time each day that you want him to sleep. He needs atleast two or three good naps during the day at his age- around 16-18 hours of sleep in every 24 hour period. He has to eat at night, its part of his age. If you put him down at the same time each night, and in the same way each time, his body will get used to sleeping at the same time each night.

You have to be consistent. And for God's sake stop stuffing him full of vitamins, he's not hyperactive, he's a newborn.

Your baby is too young to be having anything except for milk and prescribed MEDICINES.

If you think the doctor said this, I really recommend you go back to him as a matter of urgency. I am quite sure that you have misheard and should not be giving your baby extra vitamins, certainly not a general food supplement "in syrup". Too much vitamin A can be fatal, and vitamin D isn't much better. You need to try the routine suggestions made by the other posters to teach him to sleep for longer, and, I'm sorry to say it, but you need to accept being sleepy and stressed. It's part of being a new mum.

How in the world is an almost 3 month old baby hyperactive? Why is the ped prescribing vitamins? For WHAT?
I suggest you seek another pediatrician and stop giving the vitamins. If he's "full", as you say, and gaining weight the way a newborn should be, then vitamins are so not needed.

I was up constantly with my newborns. That's what having a newborn is like. What you are experiencing is not abnormal.

well i don't understand how he can sleep often but in the next breath you say he doesn't sleep well.

and no vitamins will not help him sleep or calm down. my son was and is still like this and he's over a year old.

i asked my doctor and he told me there is nothing you can do about it, he will do it when he wants. i'm sleepy and stressed too, it's called being a mother.

the sooner you get used to the fact you will be tired, the sooner you will feel better because you will expect it. and when he finally does sleep you will feel like it wasn't all that bad.

he will grow out of this over time...
If you can get someone to help you watch him for a few hours
while you sleep, that might help you. but since he is a baby
there isn't much you can do...

perhaps make his surroundings as soothing as possible when it is time for him to sleep.?? no tv or radio ( well the classical music station can be very soothing.. try that turned on low volume)
good luck and be patient with him. he is just an innocent baby and doesn't know better.

Not all babies sleep all the time. My grand daughter is 18 months old and never has been a nap taker. We are lucky if she sleeps for an hour nap every other day. Every baby is unique. I don't think he is hyperactive.

At 2 months old, babies are supposed to get all their nutrients from formula or breast milk. Babies aren't "hyperactive," by medical definition. If your baby isn't sleeping enough, you should evaluate your routines. Do you swaddle baby? That can often keep babies from jarring themselves awake during naps as newborns. Is he colicky? Does his formula not agree with him? Does he spit up? Does he have wind? Have you tried rocking him? White noise? Low lights? Do you have a predictable routine? Babies love routines. Try baby massage with lavander lotions.. warm baths, warm blankets.. etc. Don't start medicating him as a newborn.

All babies are like that till they settle into a routine - my daughter never slept during the day from 2 weeks old and only slept at night from midnight till 6am.
