The song "Halfbreed" by Cher is about a half-white half-american indian girl who is persecuted by both whites and american indians.

Halfbreed is in itself not a racist term, but is just a factual description of a person who is half one race, half another. It also describes an animal that is half one breed, and half another.

Indian is not a racist term, either, and is an approximation of the pronunciation of the French word "indigène" which means indigenous person, in other words a person native to the country.

Cher is a fabulous singer and this is a great song.. However, if you listen to the words of the song and not just the title or pull it out of context, she is singing about the way people looked at the mixing of the blood between the races during that time (or the high cheekbones and dark hair and olive skin)..sometimes people are misjudged, discriminated against, and labeled erroneously.. sometimes by the company they keep.. Never the less, they are still human beings and deserve just as much respect as any other person. The less educated people & usually the ignorant and uncouth are the ones who make the slurilous, degrading remarks.

Yes- I really like that song.
I think we need to keep in mind that back when the song was made, there were no such labels as "Bi-racial" or "Mixed Race" to use. Yes, it is a slang word and yes, it is derogatory, but that's what people said back in the day.
I don't think it has a place in today's society....at least most decent people don't use that word anymore.
From what I understand, the song is autobiographical as Cher herself was half Native American and half White.

Beethoven's Ode to excitement...... it purely lifts your soul..........that's a chuffed music. that's the music they many times play in Bruce Willis video clips whilst he's blowing stuff up sky severe. there is purely something chuffed approximately great explosions, and that music works fairly properly in those scenes. Bruce constantly looks so chuffed as he's blowing skyscrapers to smithereens. Saddest..........Oh Geeeshhhhhhhh, that ought to might desire to be Mariah Carey's "lacking you at Christmas time" music.........off her Christmas album. I advise.......JESUS.......why did no longer you purely comprise a RAZOR BLADE with that album, so the folk ought to easily in the present day shrink their wrists after listening to that.??? My GOD......what a gloomy music! and that's on a CHRISTMAS album.....whilst alot of people are ALREADY depressed! That grew to become into purely merciless.
