Ok, so i've decided that at 26 i should probably go for a basic check at a GUM clinic. I have no reason to believe there is anything wrong, just for peace of mind really. The thing is i keep putting it off just as i don't really know what happens. I have now made an appointment but just wonder if someone can give me the lowdown on what tests they do and how, so i'm prepared

It is a bit all or nothing. Either they will council that you need to have no investigations at present, or the will go the whole hog, with blood tests, urine and urethral and anal swabs.

The nurses and doctors do this all day and everyday. Just be open, honest, take deep cleansing calming breaths and claim your health, wellness and peace of mind. You are a smarter lady than most. Here's to your health and wholeness!

I just got tested when I went for my routine smear. Its very similar to a smear test, they just do another swab and send it to the clinic to get tested. You get a call about a week later.

the tests that they will give you are different depending on where you go but I hope that you do go because I am 18 and have never gone except recently and I tested positive for HPV. So you should go, it can be serious if gone unnoticed.
