Opened my email this morning to find that a question I asked yesterday had been deleted:
Deleted Question: Is there a Conservative out there who is willing to "defend" torture?
Question Details:
Violation Reason:Insulting Other Participants
If you feel this content was removed in error, please contact Customer Care and tell us why.
Regards,
Yahoo! Customer Care
********************************
Now I ask you: Who is "insulted" by being asked to defend torture???
And I must be moving up in the world.
This is the first time Yahoo has ever supplied me with a "reason" for the violation.
Thanks, guys!

I would very much like to give a "thumbs up" to each and every one of you for responding - but, alas! a lowly "Level 1 account" is not allowed to do that function.
No, I won't appeal - it's not worth the time. And I don't think it would do any good. Really my beef isn't even with the "Yahoo system" it's with people REPORTING the question.
Again- thanks for your answers!

Can't blame you for not appealing. It's a waste of time.
Posts are supposedly removed for violating community guidelines. But consider that the Y!A admins could lose their jobs if it were to become obvious that they're deleting content based on whims. It's better to leave people with the vague impression that they've done something wrong than it is to admit that they've made a mistake or that they don't understand English very well.
Of course, what this means is that they'll delete things and send you a violation notice but will either not tell you what you've done wrong or invent some BS reason for the violation. And, if you violate their unknown rules often enough, or if you just make a big enough stink about it, they'll simply delete your account.
There is no reasoning with Y!A, and anyone who expects rational behavior from them is going to be repeatedly disappointed. And, since Yahoo! is a private business, they're under no obligation to behave rationally. Many of the trolls know this, and they take full advantage of it.
There are extreme, nutty, bullying trolls in many of the other categories as well. Just as this politics category is full of left/right fighting, the cultures & groups category (where I'm at most of the time) is full of black/white fighting. Innocent questions and answers offend and get deleted while such offensive sh*t as, "Why do black people chase watermelons down hills," or "Why do white people smell like dogs when they get wet," remains posted. In the religion & spirituality category it's the theists vs. the atheists. In the LGBT category it's the homosexuals and homosexual supporters vs. the anti-homosexuals. The vegetarian & vegan category gets hit by the anti-animal rights people who harass vegetarians/vegans and animal rights activists while accusing vegetarians/vegans and animal rights activists of harassing THEM. (Go figure!) The trolls are everywhere.
Not long ago, nine of my questions were deleted in one day. And they were nothing more than silly questions that were posted in the polls & surveys category. Can't win for losing here. Sooner or later, we'll probably ALL have to start from scratch with new accounts at level one at one point or another- EVERYONE EXCEPT THE TROLLS.

Far too many people hit the "report it" button on Yahoo simply because they disagree with points made in a question or answer. It seems that yahoo's current policy is to hand out a violation if more than two people report something, whether it's a genuine violation or not.
It seems that those who make perfectly reasonable and inoffensive points get punished, while activists of the extreme right, who often make offensive and/or racist comments, seem to get away with breaking as many Yahoo community guidelines as they please.
It makes you wonder if Yahoo are as unbiased in these matters as they claim.

iv'e got a feeling that there is something wrong in customer care. Last month i reported someone for filthy and abusive language and asked for the question to be removed - they removed my answer and said that i was the person in the wrong - i appealed it only to receive the same answer again! And no, i cannot see anything wrong with your question, however some of the answers which would have come in probably to do with subservient women, whipped women and women stoned to death could ultimately have upset some with 'finer' sensibilities than our own.

There are clearly bugs in the new reporting system. I was notified of a violation last week because I said--here's the shocking message--that "there is room for both theistic and atheistic belief on the part of intelligent people--neither position can be said to be proof that one is smart or dumb."
Clearly objectionable, and much less rational than the general tenor of conversation in YA!
Please contest the irrational violation.

If your just stating facts about something and you want others opinion then this could be a valid post.
However, as we all know we can add additional details in our post esp the questions, could it be that you have posted something insulting to other participants like demeaning their moral, their intellect, their grammar etc? if that's the case you could be in violation...
Keep in mind we should all respect each other's opinion and avoid insults we can always have a clean and mature discussion without the insults ^^,

The Republicans a re getting sick and tired of defending this administrations ethics.
I have had them give me a violatioon for posting my famous
FLIP---FLOP quote from Bush regarding BinLaden most important that we capture to I dont care where he is not important!!
If they give you a violation for quoting their guy it tells you a lot about how they really feel.

That's the stupidest one I have seen, usually its just becasue they disagree with you but that one is very troubling. I hate the reporting sytem it stiffles open discourse and that is what this is all about. I gave you a star to help get you back on track, wish I could do more.

It seems to be the work of a few extremist trolls maintaining multiple accounts simultaneously reporting the questions that they deem "un-American," such as the one in dispute.

Hopefully, there are still some conservatives out there who actually ARE insulted by being linked to torturers.
