South Africa.
I´ve been here in Europe (Germany and the Netherlands) for 2 and a half years now.You will soon get tired of Europe and want to return home where people are more human. You will think this hard to believe but it is true. You might love it for the first few months but then you will soon start to question your decision.Despite what every one tells you about South Africa it is a great diverse country going through teething times.
The choice is yours, just adding my 5 cents.

It,s difficult for me to tell you what to do as the move would depend on the pros and cons of each place. It's good to travel and see other countries if you can and if the move to France will benefit your education then you must take the chance. If SA is your home then you must expect to 'go through the motions' when you're in France because things are very different outside Africa. I have only left SA for short periods and despite the situation, I still get homesick and go home annually. If you can travel between the two countries then you should go to France. If the 'someone special' means the world to you then you have to sacrifice your advancement and stay, but if not then:'absence makes the heart grow fonder'. Good luck with whatever you choose to do. If you can speak french then you will make many new friends in France and who knows.......maybe another special someone.

I have lived in both and my choice would definitely be France.
The lifestyle cannot be compared. The health system is the best in the world (not my opinion but the world health org).
The trains run on time. I could go on forever but you get my drift. The most important thing though you will live a life of not having to look behind you as you walk down the street at night. the other thing is that if you are going to have a family you must think of the education of your child.

I would say France and then visit SA. Unless you live here, you wont be able to handle it 24/7. It takes a thick skin and wide eyes.
Maybe that special some one will follow you?

France.
The only thing still functioning properly in SA is the weather.

If your friend's interest is mutual, he will most likely consider going to France anyway as it's pretty much one way traffic out of SA at the moment (not counting the traffic entering from Zimbabwe.)
