She was a woman pretending to be a man, pretending to be a woman. She was Victoria, pretending to be Victor pretending to be Victoria. Julie Andrews, James Garner.

Victor/Victoria is a movie-musical about a female singer (played by Julie Andrews, AKA Mary in 'Mary Poppins' and Maria in 'The Sound of Music') who is having an unsatisfying career. As per someone's suggestion, she decides to pose as a drag queen and sing in tranny shows. Ironically, she is a big hit and there is also a side-story about a straight man who becomes very attracted to her even though he doesn't know she is a woman, and it goes into his poor, confused emotions about sexual identity. I don't really know more than that, so sorry.
