Is it normal, in a new bathroom that has just been retiled, for there to be a greyish deposit on the floor after it gets wet? I'm guessing this is just water bringing up excess cement from inbetween the floor tiles.

Is this normal?

And is it temporary?

Anything I can / should do right now, e.g. with sealant, or will it pass eventually, like most painful things in life, LOL?

After installing thousands of sq. ft. of tile, I have a similar issue immediately after wiping and dry time.

As others suggest it may be normal. My question back however; is the residue from grout? Is the grout Gray? What substance did you use to install the tile? Have you in fact grouted yet?

Certainly one should wipe clean in some manner, especially excess that might squeeze up from the floor through the grout spaces; prior to grouting. It may be that the mortar is still drying?

If this is a continuing problem, then there is a possibility that the mortar mix was either too wet; or too dry initially. The bonding agents in the mortar may have been compromised by either extreme?

Grout issues would be the same, in that a residue is always present, and the grout should also be at a consistency similar to mashed potato for installation.

The tiles weren't polished properly after grouting, and a grout residue has been left behind. You can try going over it with water and steel wool, rinsing often. If this doesn't work, go to a tile shop and buy some tile cleaner, Follow the instructions, and it should get rid ofthe residue

it is normal, but it is also very important that you clean up the deposit right away. Use an old towel, slightly damp, and rub the floor down once a day for the first few days. You'll see the residue come off on the towel. When it stops, you can stop the daily cleaning.

sounds like the tiles were not polished correctly and maybe the grout wasn't mixed thoroughly.

Clean the tiles after each wetting otherwise the grout will dry.

Or maybe specifically wet and dry the tiles a few times to get rid of it rather than wait and it gradually go ?

Its dry grout - keep washing and it will go (eventually)
