Feed her solids during the day as well as her milk. Just some rice 3 x per day and then when she starts taking that add other things to it like pureed carrot or potato or swede.
Don't use a rusk otherwise she will become use to the sweetness and then you will struggle with savouries.
Also my mum always put rusk in my brothers bottles and he has always been overweight and now has insulin dependant diabetes!!

Research also shows that if you have 4 hours in a row sleep then you can function as normal!! So just get on with it for now try all the methods and if still does not work then go back to your HV.

You are looking for a quick fix now which may set you up for much more hassle in the future

Hi, yeah you can put a rusk in th bottle, just make sure the teat is big enough, my daughter has had a rusk to settle her or the night and is 10months now, i also think that your baby may be starting to cut her first teeth and she is wanting the food for comfort. I would try it, no harm done. Good luck xx
Man are also saying on here not to incase she chokes, the rusk will be fine it goe's all runny anyway, you are sensible enough to make sure the baby wont choke. Also every baby is different do not stop solids now you have started, every baby has different needs mine have been on solids since 4 months, you can buy the foods from 4months in the shops as you know. the 6month was a guideline as they say it is exposing the child to obesity later on in life. You do what you think is best. You only asked advice not some people telling you how to be a mum. good luck xx

It's food that is made for babies so it's fine. If she 's yelling again a few hours later it just might be because she has a bit extra wind because she's been trying to suck too hard (-I'm assuming you've been putting the rice in the bottle, too)
Buy a teat with an extra large hole and keep that for bottles with rice or rusks.
My youngest would only take food from a spoon or baby cup and never had a bottle after 16 weeks -however all the kids are in their 40's now and they and their children STILL eat rusks
My mum,by the way,is 87 and they had no Cow & Gate etc in her day and she was given a bottle with Horlicks in at night and so were my brother and I -it's really trial and error -good luck!

You can - but it's really bad for her long term.

I don't quite understand your problem with the baby rice; of course after a few hours she'll be hungry again. Wouldn't you be if you only got breakfast and nothing else?

At a rough guess, I'd say she needs some baby rice or porridge for breakfast, and another feed of solids both lunchtime and teatime, as well as a bottle. Basically 3 square meals a day. The "experts" told me to give a couple of teaspoonfulls (!) the first few weeks. Well - if you'd heard the ruccuss after the first mouthfull, you'd have been in hysterics. i had to go and make more like yesterday! This happened with both mine, so i doubt it was uncommon.

If you put the rusk in her bottle, it'll fill her up, but cause problems with her weight and her learning where "full" is.

I don't think there's anything the matter with her, just that she's good and ready for proper food. I found with mine that the cans and jars were useless (and expensive). We used packets (like Milupa) and a *lot* of home cooked stuff esp veg and fruit.

Hope this helps. If you're still in a tizzy, email me.

I put rusks in my younger two children's bottles and I NEVER had a problem,i know how you feel as I had the same problem as you, what i always done on the last bottle before you put them to bed and an extra ounce of the powdered milk and an extra ounce of water, break the rusk down small enough to put in the bottle then shake until well mixed in.You didn't say if you gave the milk at room temperature? I always gave the bottles at room temp during the day but the one before bed i heated slightly.I done this with my last two children and it worked for them.I hope it works for you,I know how you feel. You know your own baby and go with your gut feeling. Some of the comments above make me angry as i cant help wondering if they have had babies,or are reading from a text book.Well go with your heart, hope this helps you out,E-mail me if you need any more advise.xxx

I would recommend stopping all the solids. Your baby is only 4 months old. The AAP recommends against giving the baby anything except breastmilk or formula for the first 6 months of a baby's life. Cereal and other solids are harsh on a baby's gut, and can cause food allergies. It's very possible that your baby is crying because her tummy hurts. Instead of solids, which have LESS calories than breastmilk or formula, give her more breastmilk or formula. These have more fat as well, which will help keep her satisfied. And eating every three or four hours is not unheard of in a baby that age. Their tummies are tiny (about the size of their fist).

Why delay solids?

Also a baby waking every 4 hours is a protective measure. Babies are not meant to sleep all night, and it has been shown frequent wakings may protect against SIDS.

Putting cereal into a baby's bottle also bypasses their natural ability to determine how much food is enough. This has been linked to obesity and weight struggles later in life.

I highly recommend you read this study, even if you don't read anything else I posted:

Prob best not to put the rusk in the bottle, if your gonna give baby a rusk make it nice and runny in a bowl and feed it off a spoon, it may get a little messy its better than bottle.

yeah but i don't recommend it. I'm assuming that is like a cereal? Its not good to put anything in the baby's bottle because it's a choking hazard. And nothing except her formula/breast milk until after 5 months. You sound surprised that your baby doesn't sleep through the night yet at 4 months? I don't understand that because most 4 month olds dont sleep through the night. They are still young and hungry, its normal for young babies to eat a lot. looks like your going to have to get up to feed her.

you must never put rusks in bottles firstly because it can block the teat and second the baby may choke. your baby sounds like shes ready to eat small amounts of baby food now, she will tell you when shes hungry and even though she probably not eat much at one go she may want a spoon full in a few hours time. some times it maybe that your baby might want more milk more often. i have left a link i hope this helps its worth a read.

best of luck!

i was always told that bottles were for milk and that was it. rusk and rice etc is dangerous she can choke also it is to heavy on her tummy adults are not meant to eat to late at night so babies most definetly are not she will probably suffer from cramps and alot of weight gain! you need to focus on filling her up during the day.. maybe breakfast and then dinner you shouldnt feed her to late in the evening babies take alot of time digesting there food.
alot of people do put rusk in bottles but i focused on introducing solids and my daughter slept from 12 weeks threw the night

good luck and be safe
