Would you still count it as cheating if he was with a prostitute, OR
is it only cheating if he has a mistress on the side who is a normal woman?

specifically speaking, just being with a prostitute or other women should not be considered cheating. Cheating comes into action only when you are emotionally involved with other woman; and even if you are not having physical relations but having emotional attachment with other woman - it will be a cheating.
Relaxing yourself of your sexual pressure or taking care of your sexual need should not be considered cheating. But it should not be done deliberately i.e. you have got a chance to have sex with your life-partner but avoiding her, you are opting for another women.

what does your conscience say, what would your partner say?. What is a normal woman ??. what is a prostitute ??. What is a mistress??. how do you measure them as human beings on a scale. Maybe one for loving. One for when loving gets a bit boring, and the other just for fun. Or maybe all created for your gratification.

Just a bit of rhetoric to help you think the answer through.

It's a different kind of cheating, but it's still cheating. I think if my husband had a regular mistress it would hurt me more emotionally. If he messed around with a prostitute... it would still hurt me very much but I would be more concerned about stds.

Yes to your main question. Unless your partner has given you permission for some unforseen reason and is ok with it...just use protection during any such sex!

My question has to do with your description. Prostitute or mistress that is normal? WTF? Do you really know any woman that is normal? I kid I kid. Look, they are all prostitutes in some form or another. Married? Well, how much do you spend on her regularly and how much sex do you get in return? Now let's talk about expensive! LOL

That little statement is the same as your question. Now zip your pants, put your money away, go home, and give it all to mama.

Prostitutes are woman having sex for money . Other woman are doing it for free. I think a man having sex with a prostitute is the worse type of cheating man there is. He is intentionally looking to have sex , pay for it, and break the law.

I dislike your assumption that prostitutes are not NORMAL women. All women use sex as a tool to get what they want. They give it out (or hold it back) for their own reasons, prostitutes to get money, girls to secure a boyfriend or husband, others to satisfy their urge to reproduce, to please or to punish - and on and on.
Cheating in a relationship is cheating no matter who you do it with, it is neither better nor worse for having paid for the sexual services.

hell yea its cheating! any type of sexual relation with another person when you have a partner is cheating, and why in the world would you want to sleep with someone who degrades themselves like that. plus you could get stds and ****. if its bc your partner isnt satisfying you then you need to have a talk with him/ her and work on the situation, not go out and cheat with a 2-bit whore. my fince knows for a fact that if he would ever cheat on me that he would end up in ICU. i cant belive that people get into commitments such as marriage or w/e and then act the way they do and claim they love the person.. there is no good outcome when it comes to cheating.

The sex act is the culmination of the adultery (forget the euphemisms). Sex by a married person with anyone else besides their partner is adultery, period. But the adultery begins with the desire to do so. So, I believe one is cheating on their spouse when they consciencely dwell or desire on having sex with someone other than their spouse. Thought becomes action, action becomes habit, habit becomes lifestyle.

Seriously? You need to ask this question? Having sex of any kind with anyone is considered cheating on your partner. I think you know this though.

It's cheating the minute someone engages in sexual activity with someone other than their spouse or partner, regardless of whether or not money is changing hands.
