It's common in pregnancy. I had that. Your body is trying to extract all the goodness it can from what you eat to give to your baby. Don't take pharmacy cures without asking your health visitor etc. I find a bowl of bran flakes at night helps in the morning. Try having some pure vegetarian meals - parsnips, swedes and sweet potatoes seem quite good! Just the season for them too. And congratulations!

I had this problem, i went 2 weeks without going, i was in complete agony so i really sypathise. I had an enima in the end, although it wasn't nice i was just so relieved to finally go. Since changing my diet i have had no further problems though. I now eat a bowl of cereal and a slice of brown toast for breakfast. Good luck.

Oh the joys of pregnancy! Being stopped up is so reassuring...NOT! LOL! Ask your doctor to prescribe you a prenatal vitamin WITH a stool softener. It's the best thing. I was constipated really bad up until about 20wks, but I was using the over-the-counter prenatals. Also, stay hydrated and eat nectarines, and plenty of fiber to help move your bowels.

Drink lots, especially warm drinks: tea, hot water with a slice of lemon, the warmth seems to get the bowels going

Also, prunes are great. If you don't like them, any other dried fruit - apricots, figs, things like that

Exercise, move your body, girl ! It will get things moving down there as well.

Prunes and apricots and prune juice. It really works.

Also milk of magnesia- it is SAFE for pregnant women, it is on the safe list that doctors give out and the main thing suggested for constipation.

Activia yogurt by Dannon specifically targets this problem. I've had the same problem since the beginning of my pregnancy, and absolutely swear by Activia. It also tastes great and supplies much needed calcium.

Try some senokot, that's a natural way to get things going. I am wondering that you should go and see your GP, 8 days is a long time and I wonder if you should be checked out just to make sure something else isn't up.

I have suffered this as well--NO FUN! Anyway, lots of good advice in here already. I have a prenatal with stool softener, and I take colace on top of that. I've heard milk of mag is good, as well as you can take a magnesium supplement. Lots of water, exercise, and healthy eating.
