If I had the choice between Brady or Montana to build a franchise around, I would take Tom Brady. They are both great. I'm not a 49er fan but Joe Montana has always been one of my favorite QB's. The deciding factor for me is the teams they were on. All of Montana's Super Bowl teams consisted of great players all over the place, Brady's didn't. If the Pats didn't blow an 18 point lead in the AFC Championship last year, he would have taken THAT offense to the Super Bowl. I have always thought Montana was the best ever, but every year, I look more and more towards Brady to hold that title. It amazes me how many people think Manning is better than Brady.

No comparison. Both men are completely different QBs that play/played in two completely different systems of football. Montana never had a power running game (forget Craig, no where near a power RB). He also never had the defense that the Pats currently field. Brady is still putting up numbers so we'll have to wait and see but he is definitely an awesome talent.
Then again, Brady was never really known for throwing laser beam passes until this season like Montana did his entire career, start to finish. Even when Joe was broken down and ailing, he took a talentless Chiefs team to the brink of the SB vs. Bills in the 94' AFC title game.
Joe Montana was the NFLs first true thinking-mans quarterback.

We'll have to wait until the end of the season. If the Pats go 19-0, Tom gets 60 touchdowns, has a qb rating of 130, and is league MVP as well as superbowl MVP, well, Joe Montana will be the first to say Brady is the greatest of all time.

First off, I am a big time 49er fan and grew up watching Montana in the late 80s and Steve Young in the 90s.
But I wanna be fair here,
Montana had Rice, Craig and even John Taylor who was pretty decent.
Who did Brady have before Moss arrived ?

I remember watching Montana when I was young. Get the ball, march down the field, score. Montana showed he has the durability to be a legend. We'll see with Brady.

As a 49ers fan for life, I have to hate myself for saying this, but.........
I have to say that Brady will most likely be the better QB once everything is said and done. Seems like he's going to break a lot of single season records and get his team to 19-0 this season. If that happens, then you might as well crown him the QB king.
Plus, the guy can make a mediocre team at best (last years Pats team) get all the way to the AFC championship game. That shows that he's a great leader.
But then again, the way his team is playing........i wouldn't be surprised if someone in the league took a cheapshot at him that might end his career. If that happens then Montana will stay on top. I know, it's evil, but I'm a 49ers fan.

Montana gained 4 great Bowls and grew to become into nonetheless especially good in those few seasons he performed with the Chiefs. Steve youthful might have sucked with Tampa, yet in those days, you have placed any quarterback in Tampa and that they could have sucked. to no longer point out Steve youthful grew to become into nonetheless a youthful quarterback. So a say calling Montana a device quarterback is merely ridiculous. asserting Rodgers is a device quarterback in accordance with one interest performed via a backup is almost stupid. The Lions protection hasn't been almost as great as you're making it out to be, extraordinarily in the 2d 0.5 of the season. to no longer point out Matt Flynn did especially good whilst he subbed in for Rodgers final twelve months against the Patriots. Rodgers is having a historic twelve months, and a few of issues he's comprehensive is ridiculous, so i'm no longer gonna say he's a device quarterback. besides the undeniable fact that, the element you raise with Matt Cassel is exciting, cuz he for sure hasn't been an identical quarterback in KC as he has been in New England. So it does make you contemplate whether Tom Brady is extremely that good or if it is merely the device. besides the undeniable fact that, as with Rodgers, i detect it complicated to have self assurance that any one with such ridiculous stats can merely be a made from a device. you nonetheless might desire to be precise and make good judgements, inspite of device. besides the undeniable fact that, i think of of all of those, Brady has in all probability benefited the main, extraordinarily with the weapons he has at tight end with Gronkowski and Hernandez.
